Phoenix is dedicated to assisting people, primarily those with disabilities, to improve the quality of their lives.

About us

Incorporated and founded in 1973 as The Huntsville Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc., the organization was later rebranded with the dba name of Phoenix. Phoenix is a 501c3 nonprofit, owned and governed by a volunteer board of directors, comprised of several local business leaders, professionals and civic leaders, who all donate their time in order to provide oversight and guidance of Phoenix’s mission and vision. Phoenix’s offices are located at 2939 Johnson Road in a 50,000 square foot facility, originally built in 1986 and having undergone a complete, modernized renovation in 2016. Phoenix has a relationship with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) to provide comprehensive and continuous programs to assist people with disabilities enter, remain and return to the work environment.

  • Gerldean Lipscomb has been a valuable member of Phoenix for 13 years, serving as a sewing machine operator. Throughout her tenure, she has primarily worked in the Flag Department, expertly operating the long join machine. Gerldean's skill in sewing long pieces (6 red and white stripes) and short pieces (7 red and white stripes with a star field) ensures the production of over 300 flags each day, helping to keep the flag line running smoothly. Gerldean's versatility and dedication are evident as she is cross-trained on all operations within the Flag Department. She is a true team player, always ready to move to different tasks to ensure daily production goals are met. Despite her extensive experience, Gerldean remains young at heart and full of energy. During breaks, she can be found walking around the building, enjoying her music. Outside of work, Gerldean leads a vibrant and fulfilling life. She enjoys attending church, spending time outdoors, and cherishing moments with her granddaughters. An animal lover, she adores her three-year-old German Shepherd and her cats.   • Frank Wilson has been a committed employee at Phoenix since 2015. A proud US veteran, he served for two years with the US Army Nuclear Missile Command Unit. Frank's dedication and work ethic shine through in his role at Phoenix, where he particularly values the various government contracts the manufacturing plant receives. Frank holds a special appreciation for his coworkers, especially those in the US Interment Flags department, where he began his journey with Phoenix. Currently, he is a Material Handler in the Parachute Harness Department, providing crucial support in the production of life-critical items for the military. Known for his friendly nature and team spirit, Frank is an invaluable member of the department. Outside of work, Frank is devoted to caring for his elderly mother and treasures his daily conversations with his brother.
