Isaiah Spath, PIC Wean-to-Finish Technical Services, said it best. The first 10 days post-weaning are critical to the success of your wean-to-finish operation. When done properly, early pig care practices ultimately result in: ✅ Reduced fallouts ✅ Efficient use of barn resources ✅ Recovery of body condition loss due to weaning stress ✅ Greater full value pigs Our wean-to-finish team knows the importance of an early pig care program. That’s why we’ve created a new series of videos showing the best early pig care practices. Watch here: https://bit.ly/4e9IToN #EarlyPigCare #PICGenetics #PorkProduction

Karla Elliot’s 20+ year journey with PIC has been nothing short of remarkable. Karla started her career with PIC in 2001, working in many areas of production, eventually leading to her current position as Production Manager at our Borealis Gene Transfer Center. At Borealis, Karla oversees a multifaceted operation, managing production, the lab, and documentation. “What still amazes me is the global impact of our genetics. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) caused an estimated $1.2 billion per year in lost production in the U.S. pork industry from 2016 to 2020, an 80% increase from a decade earlier, according to a recent analysis Iowa State University expert, Dr. Derald Holtkamp. It’s become clear that the problem is only getting worse, and the industry is in need of a solution. We recently sat down with Dr. Holtkamp to dig deeper into his research and background and get his take on what the industry can do to combat the growing losses from PRRS. 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬. Piglet conversion is a key performance indicator for sow production efficiency. It is calculated by dividing the number of pigs weaned by the number of total born. Increasing piglet conversion by just one percent can have sizable positive results on the number of weaned pigs heading out the door and your bottom line. The good news – the PIC Camborough® excels at piglet conversion. Why? Because she farrows more and heavier piglets that thrive with her superior mothering ability. Get ahead on piglet conversion with the Camborough®. Her on-farm performance and genetic trends prove it. #PICGenetics #Camborough #PorkProduction

Karli Lane’s passion for pigs started when she was just nine years old, showing pigs in 4-H. It was that early passion which eventually led her to join PIC. “PIC had everything I was looking for – opportunities for growth in a company that truly aligned to my values and goals in the swine industry,” Karli shares. Karli started her career with PIC as a Career Development Trainee at our elite farm, Apex. After a few years spent in production, she transitioned to her current role as Senior Logistics Planner. She’s enjoyed the career development opportunities PIC has offered including Genus PLC’s AWAKE group – an employee resource group by women for women – and support of her pursuit of her Master’s in Supply Chain Management. “There is never a lack of opportunity if you are willing to take it,” Karli mentions of her time at PIC, and her career is surely a testament to that.
