We were proud to attend the Gaston Business Association’s Professional Women’s Association Luncheon today featuring Gaston County native Sylvia Hatchell, retired Carolina Tar Heels coach and former assistant coach for the 1994 Olympic basketball team. With an illustrious career that includes over 1,000 career wins, induction into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, and triumphing over cancer, Sylvia shared invaluable insights on winning strategies both on the court and in life. Emily Blackburn Winter had the privilege of attending the empowering event on behalf of Piedmont. Thank you, Gaston Business Association’s Professional Women’s Association for hosting this great experience!

Congratulations to our Senior Vice President of Safety, Environment, and Health Monique Parker, CSP on her recognition as the Blacks in Safety Excellence Safety Professional of the Year! Monique received the honor at the Safety2024 conference held last week, joining the ranks of the esteemed leaders and advocates for workplace safety and health who were honored by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).   Monique was recently elected to serve as the Senior Vice President of the Board of Directors for the ASSP, which includes more than 35,000 members in 80 countries around the world. She began her one-year term in the position in July and will succeed the President-Elect and President, serving one-year terms in each position when her current term is complete.   Please join us in applauding Monique for her achievements and ongoing commitment to safety excellence!

Splish splash! Cherryville’s baseball-themed splash pad is now open at Ballard Park! The new recreation attraction was funded by Piedmont Lithium through our Community Development Agreement with the City of Cherryville, and – best of all – it’s free to the public! At Piedmont Lithium, we are committed to supporting the long-term well-being of the community. This splash pad is one of the many projects funded through our $1 million gift in 2023 to help the city restart its Parks and Recreation Department.

Friday was a special day for our team and Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County, Inc as we painted bedrooms, landscaped flower beds, and put the finishing touches on a new home for Heidi Neeley and her daughter, Callie.   Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County began in 2022 with a $150,000 donation to help a local family experience homeownership. Along the way, we had the privilege of getting to know Heidi both through our work with Habitat for Humanity and through Gaston College’s Mo’s Pantry. Heidi is a Project Coordinator for the TRiO Student Support Services Program of Gaston College and helps manage the operations of Mo’s Pantry to provide food and personal care items to students in need. We can’t wait for Heidi and Callie to move into their new home and create many new memories in Dixon Village. We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of Heidi’s journey to homeownership!
