Pier59 Studios' Virtual Production team is thrilled to showcase the cutting-edge results of our collaboration on Vogue’s iconic September cover, a project that exemplifies the apex of fashion photography. The challenge of capturing a 10-image spread for such a prestigious publication requires extensive planning and typically utilizes multiple shooting days with complex logistics. However, with our advanced virtual production stage, we achieved this ambitious project in just a single shooting day. Leveraging our state-of-the-art 65' LED MegaWall and robust content mapping infrastructure, we seamlessly integrated virtual environments into the photography process. This technology not only created dynamic and immersive backdrops but also allowed for real-time adjustments, enabling the creative team to experiment and perfect each shot on the fly. The efficiency of this approach minimized the need for post-production alterations and ensured that the vision of the photographers and stylists was fully realized within a streamlined timeline. In essence, virtual production at Pier59 Studios has redefined what’s possible in fashion photography, combining speed, flexibility, and creative control to produce high-quality images that meet the exacting standards of Vogue in record time.

This elaborate, high-concept still photography spread was captured by esteemed director Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge) featuring Blake Lively and Hugh Jackman. “It's a relatively new technology," says Pier59 Studios Virtual Production Supervisor Jim Rider. “There's been a lot of high-profile TV shows and movies using virtual production, but commercials and stills are starting to embrace it.” The possibilities are expanding, allowing for unprecedented creativity and flexibility in these traditionally more static forms of media.
