#ThrowbackThursday Shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, William T. Piper saw a need for a military version of the J-3 Cub. It would be known as the L-4 Grasshopper, or O-59. The L-4 was mechanically identical to the J-3 civilian Cub, but was distinguishable by the use of a Plexiglas greenhouse skylight and rear windows for improved visibility. The L-4 was used extensively in World War II for reconnaissance, transporting supplies, artillery spotting duties and medical evacuation of wounded soldiers. During the Allied invasion of France in June 1944, the L-4's slow cruise speed and low-level maneuverability made it an ideal observation platform for spotting hidden German armor waiting in ambush in the country south of the invasion beaches. L-4s were also sometimes equipped with bazookas for ground attack against German armored units. The most famous of these L-4 ground attack planes was Rosie the Rocketer, whose six bazooka rocket launchers were credited with eliminating six enemy tanks and several armored cars during its wartime service

#MyPiperStory Charlie Prenaveau began flying in 2021 and quickly fell in love with aviation. He earned his PPL, instrument, and commercial ratings in a Piper Warrior. He went on to complete his CFI and CFII and is working on his multi engine add-on in a Seminole. Last year, Charlie took a big step and bought his own 1982 Piper Tomahawk and has already put over 300 hours on it. "The Tomahawk has been perfect for time building as I work toward my long-term goal of becoming an airline pilot. The dream is to one day own a brand-new Piper M350!" Recently, Charlie performed a special flight in his Tomahawk to the PIPER waypoint near Melbourne, Florida in honor of both his plane and his girlfriend Piper! "One of the best parts of owning the Tomahawk is teaching my girlfriend, Piper Fecteau, how to fly. She’s been having a blast learning in the same plane! When I saw the IFR waypoint “PIPER,” I couldn’t resist flying a hold there and then spelling out “PIPER” in the sky: a tribute to both Piper Aircraft and my girlfriend."

There’s a reason the Seminole is one of the most recognizable multi-engine trainers across the globe. With its tried-and-true construction, reliable Lycoming engines, stable handling capabilities, and standard Garmin G1000® NXi flight deck, the Seminole exceeds expectations with its reliability, durability and value. When it comes to multi-engine trainers, the Seminole stands in a class all its own.

Bryce Colangelo has worked at Piper in Vero Beach for four years and is the proud owner of a vintage 1961 Piper Colt. "Working at Piper Aircraft has afforded me the opportunity of owning a 1961 Colt and earning my private pilot’s license. I celebrated passing my checkride by flying up to Lock Haven, PA for the Sentimental Journey Fly-In. It’s a pleasure helping keep Mr. Piper’s dream alive!" #MyPiperStory
