“It’s time that our leaders understand what women and families have grasped for decades: Care is an issue that affects everyone.” It’s also an issue we can do something about—and leaders can start by investing in affordable caregiving solutions. Here’s what that could look like, according to Renee Kuriyan Wittemyer, Pivotal’s VP of Program Strategy. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gmNQQTmZ

Black women are a powerful voting bloc in the U.S., and survey data from our partner The Highland Project shows that they’re highly motivated to vote in the upcoming elections—especially this year. When asked about the issues they care most about this election season, the majority of Black women voters said combating racism and discrimination. #TheHighlandProject

Women of color in the South have long been powerful drivers of progress in their communities—yet their needs are too often overlooked and underfunded. In fact, southern states consistently rank the lowest on measures related to women’s rights, health, and wellbeing 📉 Our partner Women's Foundation of the South is leading inspiring efforts to change that.

"If nothing changes, it will take 100 years to reach gender parity in our state legislatures. I’m not willing to wait that long." In a Q&A with Cosmopolitan, our founder Melinda French Gates talked about the barriers women face in elected office—and what we can do to better support them. Check it out below!
Earlier this year, Cosmopolitan’s Jessica Giles asked me some great questions about how we can better support women in politics, why state legislatures matter, and what advice I’d give to anyone who’s feeling discouraged by the slow pace of social progress. Here’s what I had to say:

⏱️Election Day is fast approaching, and we're keeping an eye on several key trends related to women's political power. Read more from our Senior Director of Advocacy and Public Affairs, Nicole Sawran: https://lnkd.in/gPYuaPSK
I’ve been working at Pivotal Ventures during the last four election cycles, and this one feels different—particularly for some key causes we champion alongside our partners. It’s been incredibly exciting to see issues like caregiving and paid leave show up in political ads, on bus tours, and most importantly in candidate stump speeches. The country is more focused than ever on the types of support we should be providing to our families. I’m also so impressed by the many ways women are exercising their political power—from running for office, to donating, and serving as the majority of officials who protect our elections. They continue to step up, even as the challenges to do so are more complex. These women inspire me every day and make our work so meaningful. I shared a few insights here on trends we're watching – welcome your thoughts!
