Our Santa Ana office recently hosted a Mock Development Review Committee for the APA Orange Section PEEL (Planning: Education + Experience + Leadership) Mentorship Program. Jenny Yu, PlaceWorks Associate and Vice Director of Professional Development for the section, led an office tour and discussed our work on long-range planning projects. Following the tour, Senior Planners from the City of Tustin led a vibrant and educational discussion on how current planners in the City review new development projects, taking them from the (pre-) application stage to final construction, inspection, and ribbon cutting. The event tied together long-range planning with current planning, taking vision to implementation. This event was also made possible with the support of Kittelson & Associates, Inc. APA Orange PEEL (Planning: Education + Experience + Leadership) is a mentoring program presented by APA Orange County section that builds a valuable network of peers and professionals. It helps to promote a positive atmosphere of career development among all planners throughout Orange County. This year, the program is led by our own Jenny Yu, with the support of the PEEL Sub-Committee. #TeamPlaceWorks #apaorangepeel #apacalifornia

Last week, California State Parks and PlaceWorks staff attended Native American Day at the California State Capitol Park in Sacramento. We engaged with Native American and non-native participants about ongoing projects, including the Tribal Lands Acknowledgements, Interpretation and Exhibits project, the Arts in California Parks project, and the Historic Interpretation and Evaluation project. Participation and engagement were aimed at gathering insights from attendees to inform future project goals. We asked attendees to respond to the question “What would you wish visitors learned about California Native Americans when they visit State Parks?” We received a variety of great feedback, ranging from language and history, flora and fauna education, and cultural demonstrations. California State Parks is also evaluating existing interpretive materials for accuracy, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity. Tribal members and the public were invited to place stickers on the two questions that they felt were the most important to ask and provide any additional feedback via sticky notes. #NativeAmericanDay2024 #CAStateParks #TeamPlaceWorks

We’re excited to see this project move forward and proud to have led the EIR on behalf of the City.
The City of Ontario has announced the name of the largest multi-use sports complex on the West Coast: "Ontario Sports Empire." This state-of-the-art complex will include a highly anticipated professional baseball stadium. Spanning 190 acres, the Ontario Sports Empire will feature top-notch athletic facilities and, upon its expected opening in fall 2026, aims to become a premier destination for major regional and national tournaments. Central to this complex is the City-led construction of a professional baseball stadium, set to be completed in spring 2026. Jim Arnold, Partner and National Director of Business Development for The Sports Facilities Companies remarked, "We're excited to work alongside city leaders and industry experts to create a venue that will elevate Ontario's profile on the sports tourism map and serve the community for years to come." The City is seeking potential partners for various retail opportunities. Interested retailers may contact our team directly at https://lnkd.in/gnKZvt4W. Kudos to Wendy Nowak, AICP, Jesse Jones, and the rest of the project team for helping the City of LA reach this important milestone!
THE RESULTS ARE IN | LA residents provided the Recreation and Parks Department with some interesting insights about the future of the Pony Rides site. PlaceWorks led discussions, with the invaluable help of Richard Bernard and the team from FM3 (who facilitated a well-thought out, statistically valid opinion poll for the project), and the City now has some interesting ideas to consider in addition to a Pony Ride as they are contemplating the future uses at the "Gateway to Griffith." Jesse Jones also lent her parks expertise to the conversation, highlighting real world examples of the various options and what it might take to implement something similar in Griffith Park. This was an especially interesting conversation to have with several of the different interest groups in the City to better understand their perspectives to help the City come up with an informed solution. One thing is certain: LA residents care deeply about Griffith Park and value the natural escape it provides from day to day urban living. #LosAngeles #RecreationandParks #RAP #GriffithPark #PonyRides #outreach #publicengagement #parks #parkplanning #publicoutreach #survey #placeworks #planning #cityoflosangeles #future #equity #access #affordablility #fun #reuse https://lnkd.in/gDJYpnx7

PlaceWorks staff recently attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Del Mar Heights Elementary School. The rebuilding of Del Mar Heights faced many legal challenges, but PlaceWorks’ CEQA document was upheld twice in court. We were thrilled to be onsite for the opening of the school! #TeamPlaceWorks #CEQA
