As part of a major technology upgrade at Platt Technical High School Precision Machining, we purchased a Keyence Vision machine. Thank you to Ethan Woods, our Keyence rep for taking time this morning to teach our senior class some of the basics of the new equipment. All of the upgrades were made possible by a generous grant from the Gene Haas Foundation. Our students are learning everyday on the exact equipment found at our industry partners manufacturing floors. #Keyence #metrology #ConnecticutMFG #Genehaasfoundation David Cremin Kathy L. Platt Tech's Precision Machining Department is running from 7:00am to 8:30 PM everyday except Friday evenings. High School during the day and adults in the evening. 80 people everyday.. All great for Connecticut. #connecticut
We stopped for a moment last evening to take a couple of group shots of our CT State–Housatonic students enrolled in CNC Levels 2 & 3. These 38 adult learners are one of the highest-performing groups we have ever had in the program. The students in Level 1 are preparing to enter a new career in CNC machining while the Level 2 & 3 students are dramatically improving their knowledge in multi-axis programming, machine optimization, advanced setup, and tooling technologies. Some are already experiencing growth in their career pathways with only 2 months of training. The CNC Machining Precision Levels 1, 2 & 3, CMM, Solidworks, and Manufacturing Processes (New Program) will start the last week of August 2024. Please visit www.Housatonic.edu/ce for the registration link and program information. This is Platt Technical High School's class of 2025, Precision Machining Technology team. These students are standing in their metrology / inspection department where they are learning about all areas of precision inspection and the technologies of Coordinate Measuring Machines. This is a component of the amazing investment Connecticut made in the new Platt Technical High School which is one of the Connecticut Technical Education & Career System's network of schools. The investment also included updating technologies in our precision manufacturing program. To fast track training, we offered a college level intensive training program through CT Colleges Housatonic Continuing Education dept. to these students in the evening. They are learning advanced skills from an highly experienced CMM instructor from industry. Those students who can attend are subsequently training their classmates who could not attend the next morning. This act reinforces teamwork, comradery and professionalism. Their college tuition was paid for by a grant from The Workplace Inc. Building Better Futures. https://lnkd.in/dCSYzNnG These young people are not deterred from technology and will be prepared for the advanced world of Connecticut Manufacturing. And they're only 16.... Day one in 2024 - Everything about threads!! The Platt Tech Precision Machining class of 2025 have spent this entire week learning in depth knowledge on thread forms, thread classes and thread machining. UNC, UNF, UNEF and even J thread forms for our Connecticut Aerospace Manufacturers. They wrote CNC programs for turned components with Class 3 of threads, programmed threaded components in Mastercam Lathe and machined those parts to correct specifications. They inspected threads with Thread gages and micrometers. Note to Connecticut Manufacturers: These 16 yr. old’s know threads…. And still have 15 more months of learning ahead. Imagine what they will know then.. #cncmachining #haasautomation #sikorsky #threading #stratonindustries #mastercam Larry Pomerleau Paul S. Lavoie Kathy Saint David Cremin Clint Smith

Back in the early 80's our shop instructor would direct us to walk outside and look at the new car one of our graduates had purchased. This was to send a message about the financial advantages of a machining career. Back then it was a Mustang, GTO, Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, etc. Today one of our graduates Kevin Engram, from 2007 stopped in to say hello and speak with our seniors about career possibilities. He arrived in his Porsche Panamera. So, we took the walk outside. Just another reason why careers in manufacturing offer young people so much opportunity. #cncmachining #aerospacemanufacturing #platttech #skilledtrades
