On Friday, October 4th, our MET Instructor, Jesus De La Cruz, attended the Somos Excelencia dinner held on campus. He was nominated for Outstanding Somos PNW Faculty Member of the Year and was awarded. The nomination process was open to the whole campus, and Instructor De La Cruz was nominated by fellow faculty and students. We are very proud of this achievement and applaud his work with our Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives.

Prof. Ashok Vardhan Raja, Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity, presented “Exploiting Vulnerabilities in AI-Enabled UAV: Attacks and Defense Mechanisms” as part of the CERIAS weekly security seminars. The Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) is the world’s foremost interdisciplinary academic center for cyber and cyber-physical systems. Prof. Raja said, “Participating in these events is an opportunity to create awareness about our research work to the cybersecurity community at large and with graduate and undergraduate students. Hopefully, it will lead to increased interest in this field and encourage young students to take up research in this niche field.” Prof. Raja’s ongoing research at PNW is on ensuring security in AI-UAV operations. He is particularly focused on the integration of emerging technologies like LLMs to enhance UAV operations. A recording of his presentation is available at: https://lnkd.in/gTbTy2zB

Please join me in congratulating our Baja team on winning 1st Place this past weekend in Michigan in the Business Presentation event as part of their competition. The team has come in 3rd place the last few years and set out this year to improve their presentation and in doing so beat out nine other schools in this category, which included Tennessee Tech, Youngstown State, University of Michigan, Ecole De Technologie, University of Nevada and several other top tier schools. In addition, they competed and finished in the four-hour endurance race and placed 31st out of 86 teams at this event. This is the highest rank the team has achieved in several years. A shout-out to the Business Presentation team, which included students Paige Harrison, Stefan Dinich, and Nathan Mlynarczyk. Another special shout-out to the Team Captain, Brian Scott, and Faculty Mentor, Jesus De La Cruz, for their leadership and support. The College of Technology is very proud of your success and looks forward to watching your team continue to grow.
