"Not built here" syndrome runs deep in robotics. But teams that fall into the I-can-build-it-better trap often hamstring their development later on. This week on the podcast, we're talking vertical vs horizontal tech companies. That is of course, after the guys play a game that invents a robot for dumpster diving. Together with our colleagues at Silicon Valley Robotics and Circuit Launch we've put together a special edition of ROS By-The-Bay that will coincide with NVIDIA GTC and serve as an after party. We've invited ROS contributor Emerson Knapp from Polymath Robotics to come speak on some of his latest work. We're also working on a second special guest speaker who will be announced in a couple of days. The event is scheduled for TUESDAY, March 18th from 6-9pm and will be held at the brand new Circuit Launch office in Mountain View (the old Boston Dynamics and Hacker Dojo office). Please note that this is a change in both day of the week and location. Space is limited, please RSVP on our Meetup page. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gf8Prhtg

GPS is great, but it's not a reliant enough source for underlying safety systems. This week on Automate It, Stefan Seltz-Axmacher and Ilia Baranov are breaking down the downsides of traditional Collision Avoidance Systems -- and how Polymath is architecting safe, deterministic autonomy for industry. Listen to the episode at the links in the comments 👇

Adrian Macneil is the CEO of Foxglove which was one of the first to recognize the need for developer tooling in robotics. But it wasn't exactly a slam dunk pitch for VCs at the start. This week on Automate It, Adrian joins Stefan Seltz-Axmacher and Ilia Baranov to talk about the challenges of building software for a hardware-first industry -- That is, after he helps them invent a mice-stomping humanoid. Remotely operated hostlers are the future of terminal operations, but safety is key. ConGlobal teamed up with Polymath Robotics to build a sensor-based collision avoidance system, making remote ops safer and more reliable. See how this partnership laid the foundation to remove safety drivers through safe, reliable, and certifiable object detection: https://lnkd.in/gYBnCEFD

Was collecting Polymath Robotics' customer robot data down the street and a random person walked up and asked if I used ROS. Then we both ranted about the pains of ROS 2 launch files for a good 5 mins 😂 Only in SF

Nobody can think of every safety scenario in advance. That's why proper safety engineering is critical for autonomy teams. Our CTO Ilia Baranov breaks it down on this week's episode of Automate It 👇

Making some updates to the studio (and Ilia Baranov true to form is tinkering with the lights)
