Developers…take note. Federal grants (and low-interest loans) are out there and can help bring your impactful developments to life. Understanding how to effectively compete is crucial. Having recently applied on behalf of a big, mixed-use district and its city partner, it's a good time to reinforce some critical steps. Projects like roads, community parks, EV charging, and others seeking funds to defer costs should expect the following: 1. Coordinate Between Agencies and Stakeholders Alignment with local governments is important for both application submission and project execution. 2. Budget for and Secure Your Non-Federal Match Most programs require a 10-20% non-Federal match. However, some grant programs may waive this. 3. Ensure Your Project Is on an Official List (TIP/STIP) Inclusion in your local government's Transportation Improvement Programs demonstrates regional alignment and readiness. 4. Identify an Eligible Sponsor Entities like local governments typically act as the project's official sponsor, as companies may not be eligible to apply. 5. Know Your Justice40 Designated Census Tracts Projects benefiting disadvantaged communities often receive additional consideration. Quick analysis can determine this. 6. Prepare Your Capital Project's Benefit-Cost Analysis A robust BCA is crucial for demonstrating project value and viability. 7. Budget for Meaningful Public Involvement Community engagement is not just required—it's essential for project success. 8. Build a Strong Workforce Development Plan Emphasize job creation and workforce opportunities in your application. 9. Understand Federal Laws and Requirements Environmental compliance and civil rights considerations must be addressed early. These elements will significantly enhance your competitiveness.

Pontem Resources recently completed an analysis for a client to explore the viability of a Community Improvement District (CID) to help redevelop an important commercial corridor. Our work with Rockdale County and the Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council (CREDC) involved a thoughtful process to assess if a CID would organize commercial property owners and bring resources to the table. We evaluated landowner interest, identified the potential size and capacity of the proposed district, and developed a robust framework for decision-making. For example, analysis revealed that while only one-third of the corridor is zoned for commercial use, these properties represent over 50% of the total real estate value. Further, projections indicated that CID assessments could potentially generate $1.4 million in annual revenue to reinvest in area infrastructure. By leveraging data-driven insights and applying expert analysis, we equip our clients with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions and put their best foot forward. #strategicplanning #economicdevelopment
Congratulations to Pontem Resources Collaborator Karl Kalbacher, PG for securing a $500 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)! The application will fund a hydrogen-fueled, zero-emissions steel-making facility in the US for steel manufacturer SSAB. The award will further the expansion of green steel operations replacing traditional coal-based production with hydrogen or other renewable fuels that produce water instead of carbon dioxide. #grants #infrastructure #cleanmanufacturing

Pontem Resources is delighted to welcome Henry County to our client roster! With a projected increase of more than 120,000 new residents in the coming years, we will assess the opportunity to establish Community Improvement Districts (CIDs) along two of the county's commercial corridors. The information will arm the elected officials and commercial real estate investors with an understanding of how they can address growth and development by working together.
