The damp weather has unveiled the vivid colors of spring, providing a scenic backdrop for the Port. March has been quiet at the docks, as the US Army Corps of Engineers closed several locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers for annual maintenance. We are grateful for the dedication of our hardworking partners at USACE, who ensure these technological marvels operate seamlessly and ensure the ongoing vitality of our river system. The maintenance is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

I am super excited that PNWA’s 2025 Mission to Washington gets underway this evening! Many of us started the advocacy work early today! I accompanied Michelle Hennings and our River Stakeholders to the White House and Dept of Interior to advocate for Marine Highway 84 and the Lower Snake River Dams, tariffs, Farm Bill and protecting our federal parters who are critical in ensuring the viability of our PNW supply chain. Can’t wait for all the exciting things to come this week! Scott Corbitt Columbia River Pilots Pacific Northwest Waterways Association Washington Association of Wheat Growers Port Of Lewiston

A major milestone for the Confluence Riverfront project has been completed! After a few days of wading through muddy conditions, construction crews poured the foundation for the cruise boat dock. Once the concrete set, the gangway was secured into place. The first lucky American Cruise Lines passengers are expected this spring!

Chilly temperatures didn’t keep a group of enthusiastic students from seizing a fantastic opportunity at the Port’s Confluence Riverfront. University of Idaho Interior Architecture & Design students are participating in a competition to develop a design to transform a former heavy equipment shop into a tourist destination and community space. Once complete, the building will serve as a cornerstone of the entire Confluence development. Designs will be evaluated by Port staff, commissioners, industry professionals, and university instructors, with first and second prizes awarded. Currently, the Confluence Riverfront project is in Phase 1, focusing on site development, while the building will fall under Phase 2. The first cruise boats head into port this spring.
