PorterGear LLC recently delivered an innovative solution for a prestigious luxury jewelry company in the Phoenix area. The project began when we were contracted to create and manufacture a small clasp for an existing custom necklace chain. This luxury brand, known for offering lifetime repairs on their accessories, was finding that one particular clasp needed repairs more frequently than desired. Our engineering team rose to the challenge, designing and 3D printing a prototype before casting it in sterling silver to match the rest of the necklace. However, during our rigorous testing phase, we discovered that the material was too soft for the intended application. Undeterred, we reached out to our trusted partner, Nick Temos from Trend Dynamics Inc., to explore low-cost, harder material options. Nick and his team successfully located a titanium casting house that met our stringent durability requirements.
