👉PCA Fall Meeting Recap PCA members, industry stakeholders, and allied industry partners met in Aurora, CO, from Oct. 9 to 11 to plan, network, and discuss the latest in the cement industry. A few highlights: ▪️The PCA Fall Economic Forecast: The Federal Reserve’s recent move to lower interest rates, coupled with easing inflation, signals a significant retreat in interest rate levels by the end of next year -- all to benefit construction activity. ▪️Blended cements: Roundtable discussions with representatives from all segments of the value chain shed light on challenges and opportunities. PCA is committed to furthering education and communication, in collaboration with all industry stakeholders, about low-carbon blended cements. ▪️Election insights from former Colorado Senator Cory Gardner. Thank you to all who participated and shared your voice in the cement industry. 📷View photos from the event on PCA's Flickr: https://lnkd.in/dWp5SFWi 📅Mark your calendars for the 2025 PCA Spring Meeting, May 4-8 in Birmingham, AL! #PCAFallMeeting #CementIndustry #PCAevents

“American cement manufacturers have the commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050," said PCA Chair Massimo Toso. "We appreciate the effort of Senator Cassidy and his colleagues to put in place a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM)" which levels the playing field, ensuring fair competition by accounting for the carbon footprint of imported goods. PCA was proud to participate in Senator Bill Cassidy's Louisiana Energy Security Summit yesterday. Reliable, sustainable energy is vital to America's cement manufacturers, and PCA urges Congress to: > modernize federal laws and regulations to help manufacturers improve their plants; > improve permitting for energy generation & infrastructure; and > ensure federal regulations protect human health & the environment while facilitating economic growth. The Portland Cement Association and the cement industry made a strong presence at Senator Bill Cassidy’s Louisiana Energy Summit in Baton Rouge. PCA Chairman Massimo Toso, CEO of Buzzi Unicem USA, engaged in a panel discussion with Senator Cassidy and other industry leaders on essential policies for sustaining U.S. competitiveness in the global energy and manufacturing sector. PCA member companies, including Ash Grove Cement Company’s Scott Nielson and CEMEX USA’s Jerae Carlson, also participated in the summit. A special acknowledgment to Senator Cassidy and Christine Harbin for including PCA and our members in such a great event!

Reporting emissions is indeed an important step, and with PCA’s all-of-the-above approach in the PCA Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality, our members stand ready to take the next steps. This op-ed illustrates EPDs in the context of the bigger picture and sheds light on the on the importance of considering the entire value chain of building materials. #PCAroadmap #cement #concrete #netzero #cementindustry
In their new op-ed in RealClearEnergy, Hessam AzariJafari, Ipek Bensu Manav, and Andrew Laurent explain that while the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s new low-carbon labels for construction materials are an important step forward, they must account for emissions beyond production to best aid purchasing decisions. The authors propose that the EPA use life cycle assessment tools to generate actionable emissions ranges that account for context and climate, and also expand the range of materials covered under the labeling program.
