About us

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care is a multi-specialty veterinary center. We have been serving Maine for more than thirty years. We provide compassionate, expert specialty and emergency care for your pet, and peace of mind for you. EMERGENCY SERVICES: Emergency services are available at our Warren Avenue campus 24/7/365. Staffed with Critical Care Specialists, experienced emergency veterinarians, and skilled technicians, you can count on PVESC to care for your pet when your regular day clinic isn’t open or if critical care is needed. Be advised that care is prioritized based on triage determination. This may affect wait times. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. SPECIALTY SERVICES: Our board-certified veterinary specialists receive referrals from veterinary hospitals and work in partnership with your family veterinarian for the benefit of your pet. PVESC provides advanced diagnostics, sophisticated techniques, and the treatment of complex diseases and injuries, working together to provide diagnoses and effective therapies for the most challenging conditions. When your family veterinarian refers you to Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care, it is because they know we will work hand-in-hand with them to ensure the best help for your pet. Your veterinarian will provide us with supportive documentation of your pet’s condition for the initial consultation. We will continue to work with you and your pet throughout the duration of the illness for which you sought our attention.

  • Meet Huckleberry, Dr. Sullivan's adorable 8-month-old male French bulldog. 🐾 Huckleberry is a bundle of joy who loves sticks, zoomies, food, and playing with his three other dog siblings. His playful nature and boundless energy make every day an adventure. Dr. Sullivan, a Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon, is passionate about helping Frenchies live their best lives possible. One way she does this is by performing airway surgery to help them breathe better. French bulldogs, along with bulldogs, Boston terriers, and pugs, often suffer from BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome). This condition can lead to snoring, difficulty breathing, exercise intolerance, regurgitation, and many other issues. Dr. Sullivan is dedicated to ensuring that every Frenchie, like Huckleberry, can enjoy a healthier, happier life.
