  • 🌿🌱Exciting developments at the East End Wastewater Treatment Facility!🌱🌾 Things are moving and blooming at the East End Wastewater Treatment Facility! The Secondary Clarifiers are undergoing a significant upgrade, enhancing efficiency and sustainability. These improvements are part of a $5 million investment to ensure the treatment process runs smoothly. In addition, our Pollinator Garden is in full swing, buzzing with life as it supports essential pollinators like bees and butterflies. We're committed to innovation and environmental stewardship—creating a cleaner, greener future for our community. What is under the dome? These three clarifiers are essential to the operation of the treatment facility. We've begun an extensive, 2.5-year project to map out 40,000 curb stop service valves across our service area with high-accuracy GPS. This initiative will help enhance our maintenance efficiency and emergency response times with precise locations of critical water infrastructure. Easily accessible valves reduce the guesswork due to overgrown landscapes, building renovations, and changes over time! Pictured below is PWD’s recent GIS Intern David DelVecchio testing a GPS receiver as he prepares to verify data points in the field. Learn more about this project and how we are improving our operations to serve you better here: https://lnkd.in/g8fz_FQH.

  • To celebrate Maine Clean Water Week, Portland Water District teamed up with the City of Portland, Maine to raise awareness about the connection between stormwater and water quality. We spent the afternoon stenciling messages on storm drains to remind the public that pet waste and other garbage dumped in these drains flows directly into Casco Bay. Let's work together to keep Casco Bay clean. #CleanWaterWeek #ProtectCascoBay
