Dominion and NextEra both want to build 500kV lines in Loudoun County, VA. 500kV underground transmission is on the table! SCE successfully built 500kV UG several years ago. https://lnkd.in/ehiXiw7W As planners, engineers, regulators and other stakeholders evaluate the “total cost of ownership” over the life of the proposed transmission asset, they may be using an installed cost of $100MM per mile for 500kV UG. (Including transition stations). Wow….that’s a lot of distribution underground. Maybe there’s a reasonable compromise. Let’s watch these two very cool 500kV projects. Thanks. With Dominion Energy proposing a new 500/230 kV electric transmission line in Loudon County, Va., county officials & residents will be advocating for an undergrounding alternative at a public hearing on September 5. Emily Leayman reports for Patch.com.   "Lansdowne Conservancy and Loudoun County are advocating for undergrounding of the electric lines between Aspen and Golden substations. The county said in a statement that underground lines 'will preserve the quality of life, viewsheds, and character of the community for the residents, businesses, and visitors to area in which the global data center industry is located.' The $1.4B Georgia Power Grid Investment Program (phase one) was a comprehensive effort of new transformers, smart devices and 350 miles of (strategic) undergrounding. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has selected Stantec for a new five-year effort to upgrade & modernize underground electrical infrastructure across the city. Underground Infrastructure Magazine has the story.   "Under the agreement, Stantec will serve as one of the Owner’s Representatives, providing a range of services, including transmission planning studies, reliability assessments, and economic evaluations. Residents are calling on Puget Sound Energy to underground electric lines on Vashon-Maury Island in Washington state. Check out this piece from Jenny Bell in The Loop.   "There are many reasons why undergrounding on Vashon is a good idea, including almost eliminating power line wildfire ignition risk. No PSPS blackouts, no easements or eminent domain acquisitions. No Asplundh crews and tree specialists being paid for costly, ongoing maintenance. The aesthetics of whole trees are retained, with no overhead power lines. Our significant established trees are kept as an essential 'decarbonization' strategy.   "In the last month, PSE overhead wire upgrade projects on my street have seen the loss of at least five trees of significance.
