Can one fall in love with a renewable technology?... I did and I'm not the only one! It was a joy to show the PowerPanel installation in CLE, Ohio on Friday to an engineer, Director of Operations & Maintenance, who heard about it and wanted to see it for himself, up-close. Mike was very impressed by several factors: - The total energy production in a small footprint (approx. 40% less space) and the very high efficiency of the system - The dual generation of thermal and electrical energy in one panel (4:1 ratio) - The innovative, light-weight engineered materials of the panels (including custom-made foam from BASF) and of the tanks - The high capacity of energy storage of one 350 gallon thermal tank using only water: 55 kWh (185,000 BTU) at a 35°C Temperature Delta - The quick and easy installation of the thermal tanks, which can fit through doors - The very low maintenance requirements of the system - The fact that this works perfectly in very cold climates too - The live tracking of the system performance with a cool phone interface - And the fact that this equipment is made in the US (Detroit), with all the advantages that entails. What excites me about the PowerPanel technologies (PVT and thermal storage) is that they maximize the use of solar energy (with over 80% solar capture) and seriously move the needle in terms of GHG emissions reduction.
