"The absence of information leads to the creation of false narratives," said one of my wise Peoplehood team members today in a meeting. This really got me thinking about how as a leader (especially in today's hybrid / remote work environment) **we have to over communicate with our teams**. Even when it feels annoying. And repetitive. Leaving anyone in the gray area leads to disconnected, disengaged and dissatisfied employees. To my leaders: How are you (OVER COMMUNICATING) and making sure the word gets out regularly to your teams / in your orgs?

We might work silently in our cubicles, rearranging and transmitting zeros and ones. We might walk around with speakers in our ears that played digital music files chosen by an algorithm. We might buy our books and sweaters and toothpaste with a click and wait until they showed up at our door. We might flirt, fight and make up by text. But when we went out to eat, we were people again." -Pete Wells, In his farewell article for the NYTimes (after 12 years of restaurant reviews), Pete Wells dedicated his departing words to the decline in social connection. Just another reminder of why Peoplehood and the art of BEING TOGETHER are more critical than ever.

Today's thought (c/o James Clear): "Communication is about what is received, not what is intended. If there is a gap between what you are saying and what they are hearing, you have to find a new way to say it." Like we say Peoplehood, it's through higher listening that we are able to get someone else's world and communicate in a way that allows us to 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 hear each other — not what we think we want to hear or what we assume someone is about to say... It's not always easy, but it's worth it!
