As a clinician working in substance use disorders care, I tend to see 2 broad categories of clients seeking help: the first is someone on the very severe end of the spectrum-they’ve been to rehab 3, 7, even 20-plus times and nothing’s working. They’re sick of the same old approaches and are desperate for something new, different, and highly individualized and tailored to their specific situation. The second broad category is someone on the mild-to-moderate end of the spectrum. They’ve been trying to get their drinking or drug use under control for months, even years, but can’t. They’re working, supporting and caring for a family, etc, but come home each night and get high or drink 2 bottles of wine. They don’t want to go to rehab and probably wouldn’t meet criteria for admission anyway. But most of all, they can’t pack up and leave their family and career for 30-plus days. In each case, addiction therapy is an excellent option, and the last decade of my career has been dedicated to developing approaches tailored to their unique needs. These folks are all over the country, desperate for clinicians who can help them, and incredibly happy and grateful once they find us. I’m super excited for next month’s intensive workshop, Demystifying Addiction, because we have a training to help more clinicians, counselors, therapists, etc., increase their skills and do this effectively. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more, go here and consider signing up: https://lnkd.in/g_s7f3kb We’d love to see you there!
