About us
The Practitioners Leadership Institute (PLI) was initiated in 2012 and designed to provide a booster shot for practitioners across the nation. We supported the capacity building of C-suite Executives working in the fields of Workforce Development, Healthy Marriage, Boys & men of color and Fatherhood. After graduating five cohorts of national practitioners, PLI turned its focus to Baltimore grassroots leaders here in Baltimore. In 2017, through generous funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the seven-month academy featured a collaboration between the University of Baltimore and the Community Law Center, exclusively supporting local leaders whose efforts impact Boys and Men of Color. Now back in the lab, we have embarked upon a three-year pilot, sponsored by the Ballmer Group, to support Baltimore City Head Start (BCHS) and its mandate to become a more father-engaging and inclusive organization. We are working specifically with the BCHS Family Service Coordinators and teachers to support these efforts.

According to the Office of Head Start, the standard of 90 days before the end of the school-year is given to start prepping for Transition. We are starting a little early with tips and tricks that parents can utilize at home to ensure that their child/ren are more than ready!! Beyond the Backpack is a nationwide endeavor (credit to [@nickelodeon](null "null") ) that seeks to support the transition to kindergarten for children, parents and families. The following slides show a couple of examples of the readiness checklist. You can utilize the link above to check out some activities to help you and your child! Pass them along to any other children and families who are soon to start their transition process.
