In light of recent news surrounding NBA player Jaxson Hayes, the silence and lack of accountability by major organizations like the NBA speak volumes, not only to the survivors directly affected but also to the broader public. When public figures or organizations fail to uphold standards of accountability in cases of domestic violence, it sends a dangerous message—that survivors may not receive the support they need, and perpetrators may avoid real consequences. At Praline’s Backyard Foundation, we work with survivors of domestic violence every day, providing safe, pet-inclusive housing to ensure they are able to escape situations of abuse without having to choose between their safety and that of their beloved pets. We’ve seen firsthand how essential it is for survivors to feel that there is support on their journey to safety. When large, influential organizations don’t hold people accountable, it creates a ripple effect—instilling a fear in survivors that they won’t be believed, supported, or protected if they come forward. Accountability matters. Survivor-centered policies matter. Public actions—or inactions—matter. Each time a survivor hesitates to leave because they feel unsupported, or a pet remains in harm’s way because resources are scarce, we fall short as a community. At Praline’s Backyard Foundation, we urge everyone, from local communities to national leagues, to foster a culture of accountability and compassion. Only then can we hope to make lasting change and build a world where every survivor is supported and empowered to seek safety and freedom. Let’s continue to push for stronger accountability in cases of abuse, to advocate for survivors, and to protect the most vulnerable among us. If you would like to be part of this movement for change, join us in supporting our mission. Together, we can make a difference—one survivor, one safe haven at a time. https://lnkd.in/e2uFSbRZ

"Incredible progress for survivors and their pets! 🐾💜 Pennsylvania’s House Bill 1210, led by Rep. Christina Sappey, is a critical step forward in ensuring that pets are included in protective orders for survivors of domestic violence. For many survivors, pets are not just companions—they are family. Sadly, abusers often use pets as a form of control, knowing that threatening or harming them can further terrorize victims and prevent them from leaving. At Praline’s Backyard Foundation, we’ve seen firsthand how essential it is for survivors to know their pets will be safe when they take the brave step to leave an abusive situation. While 37 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico already include pets in protective orders, this bill would extend these protections in Pennsylvania, giving more survivors the security and peace of mind they deserve. No survivor should ever have to choose between their safety and the well-being of their beloved pet. Let's continue to support legislation like this that protects both survivors and their animals. Together, we can make a difference! 💪🐾 #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SupportSurvivors #NoPetLeftBehind #PAWSAct #PralinesBackyardFoundation" https://lnkd.in/gbtAHAK9
