We Move People Forward

About us

PRC is a new $30-million San Francisco nonprofit formed through the merger of Positive Resource Center, Baker Places, and AIDS Emergency Fund. Leveraging a 50-year legacy of community service, PRC is focused on ending homelessness and improving the quality of life in the City by removing social barriers to good health and financial stability. Through PRC’s uniquely integrated legal, social, and health services each year more than 5,000 people are building income, getting healthy, and staying housed. The mission of PRC is to help people affected by HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues better realize opportunities by providing integrated legal, social, and health services that address the broad range of social risk factors that impact wellness and limit potential.

"In recent months, local media and some politicians have been promoting the myth that nonprofits receiving grants from the City of San Francisco are mismanaged, bloated, inefficient, and 'mired in scandal.' Sadly, this myth—and it is a myth—is taking hold in the public conscience." Through legal assistance, health care, support services, advocacy, and more, PRC and the other 24 member organizations of the HIV/AIDS Provider Network (HAPN) are proud of our impact as we protect our communities’ health and provide an economic benefit to the City as responsible stewards of public funds. Read more of our joint statement with the HIV/AIDS Provider Network below.

Thank you to Mayor London Breed, Senator Scott Wiener, and Supervisor Rafael Mandelman for joining PRC’s Mighty Real Event! We appreciate your commitment to championing the things we care about here at PRC: housing, meaningful substance use and mental health solutions, and a robust social safety net. Mayor Breed encouraged us to remember that the work happening on the ground to address our city’s challenges is being done by a network of impactful and committed nonprofits and service workers. Senator Wiener, referencing the unproductive national narratives surrounding San Francisco, reminded us of the values that make our city special: we care for the least among us, we ensure everyone belongs, we will always be the world's beacon of authenticity, freedom, and love. Now that’s #MightyReal

Reflecting on a successful Mighty Real, we're still in awe of our incredible honorees and the message they gave to our community last Friday night. Steven Ames Brown shared his personal connection with SF disco icon Sylvester and asked the audience to continue Sylvester's legacy of care for the most marginalized among us. Marsh McLennan Agency's June Hong shared why going the extra mile to support PRC's mission is so important to the staff and culture of MMA. And Dr. Monica Gandhi of Ward 86 inspired us to think of HIV not as a disease, but as a movement representing intersectionality of oppressed communities. We were honored to recognize each of them for their leadership and hope you join us in thanking them for their commitment to our mission and to all San Franciscans affected by HIV, substance use and mental health disorders, and poverty.

Meet Rudy (left) and Martin (right), two of the friendly faces welcoming clients, community, and coworkers to PRC each day. Together, they keep things at PRC running smoothly, providing exceptional customer service to clients and support to staff. We would not be able to serve our clients with life-saving services if it weren't for these two. Our city relies on nonprofits to provide critical support during tough times. These organizations are evaluated and held accountable to ensure they maximize their impact. Let’s shine a light on the difference they make every day! #SFNonprofitsWork #SocialSafetyNet

Many people on San Francisco's streets don't have the legal representation they need to get the benefits they deserve and require to leave homelessness behind. Help us close this gap in legal representation by supporting PRC during Mighty Real, this Friday, October 4! prcsf.org/mightyreal

Did you know that job loss is the leading cause of homelessness? Twenty-two percent of unhoused people in San Francisco reported losing their job was the primary event that led them to lose their housing. PRC puts people back to work in meaningful careers that pay 39% more than San Francisco's minimum wage, helping them regain stability and rebuild their lives. Join us at Mighty Real on Friday, October 4, to be part of this solution. Tickets on sale now at prcsf.org/mightyreal
