🚨 You can run DeepSeek R1 w/out sacrificing privacy! 🚨 I've seen soooo much confusion around the security/ privacy concerns with this model. There are definitely real concerns, but there are few things to clear up. [see my link to a full blog post in the comments] To start, there are two main ways you can access DeepSeek: 1️⃣ DeepSeek's product - Convenient, but w/ potential privacy concerns 🚩 2️⃣ Self-hosted - You are in control and can enforce privacy & security 🔒 The second option ensures that your sensitive data remains under your control and isn't inadvertently sent to and stored by DeepSeek (the model builder). Of course you should be thinking about this kind of sensitive data leakage with any AI product (e.g., ChatGPT or Claude), even if they aren't hosted in China. Then, once you have dealt with the privacy issues, you can move on to think about inherent model vulnerabilities and behavior (which have nothing to do with sending data to China). DeepSeek is particularly sensitive to prompt injections (as demonstrated by Donato Capitella and others at WithSecure), and it will have its own biases related to training and fine-tuning data. Check out the link in the comments for a more detailed discussion! #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Privacy #DeepSeek #LLM #LLMs

I want to share about an incredible learning experience I had this week at an AI bootcamp organized by my amazing boss Don Barger, Director, Innovation and AI and led by Daniel Whitenack, CEO, Prediction Guard. 🙌🙏🎉 🤖 This bootcamp was the perfect opportunity to deepen my knowledge, sharpen my skills, and learn from the best in the business. Having Daniel with us throughout the bootcamp made the experience even more enriching. 🌟 His insights, teaching style, and real-world examples brought the concepts to life, showing us how to apply them practically. 💪 Key takeaways for me included: - Developing a mental model for how the latest wave of AI models work and their application in enterprise environments - Learning essential AI engineering skills such as prompting, data augmentation, chaining, developing agents, validating/filtering model inputs and outputs, fine-tuning and AI risk management - Gaining hands-on experience with generative AI models (chat completion, Embedding, TTS) Throughout the bootcamp, we collaboratively brainstormed a prioritized list of good use cases within our organization for AI applications. 📋 We identified groups of people that want to (and will) attempt to prototype out initial AI applications following the workshop days. 🚀 It was incredible to see the diverse range of projects that people worked on, from low-code/no-code solutions using tools like Dify and Microsoft Power Automate to custom-built prototypes. Personally, I had the opportunity to hear the problems that different departments or individuals within the organization are facing and discuss possible solutions. 🗣️ I'm excited to continue building a tool that allows users to query Excel/Google Sheets/CSVs using natural language, making data analysis more accessible and intuitive. 📊 This bootcamp was a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with like-minded individuals passionate about AI and its potential applications within IMB. 🌟 I feel so grateful for this experience and can't wait to see the incredible things we'll build together! 🙌 #AI #Leadership #TeamBuilding #ContinuousLearning #IMB

Yesterday's OpenAI outage highlights one aspect of why those building mission critical AI systems (especially in regulated industries) are turning to self-hosted open models. OpenAI models are amazing and they continue to do interesting work, but bringing truly open models (like Llama, Mistral, deepseek, etc.) into your own infra gives full control and configurability to achieve: (1) Transparency: Rather than relying on obfuscated moderation, security measures, and scaling mechanisms, you can understand, test, and build alerts off of safeguards and scaling issues that you configure. (2) Resiliency: With models in your own infrastructure, you can build flexibility across a variety of hardware targets and directly load test in a way that fits your use cases. Of course self-hosting brings up other issues around managing and scaling distributed systems and implementing the right security/ monitoring. That's what we are thinking about every day at Prediction Guard, and why we think there is a clear need for a self-hosted AI platform built from the ground up with security in mind. #GenAI #OpenAI #outage #llm #llms #generativeai
