IS ASTHMA CONTAGIOUS? CAN IT BE TRANSMITTED FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER, LIKE A COMMON COLD? According to WHO, Asthma is one of the non-communicable diseases that can affect both adults and children. So, what happens to the body of someone with Asthma? As one breathes in the air, the air is supposed to go to your lungs and supply your cells and tissues with Oxygen, but in the case of Asthma, the air pipes become so swollen that it makes it hard for the person to breathe and take in the much-needed oxygen. Now, enough of the big grammar! An Asthmatic attack is more like when one is suffocating or drowning; the person starts struggling to breathe, hence looks anxious, coughs, experiences chest tightness and tries to breathe through inflamed air pipes, leading to a” wheezing” sound. Have you ever seen a person having an asthmatic attack before? What did you do to help? Here are some tips to help someone having an asthmatic attack: 👉Keep calm, being anxious will not help someone struggling to take the next breath 👉Help them get their inhaler and help them use it if they can’t by themselves. One puff every 30-60secs up to 10 puffs. Most Asthmatics go around with their inhalers in their bags or purses. 👉Help them sit up to breathe in the inhaler 👉Avoid overcrowding. 👉Engage bystanders to call the ambulance or emergency service 👉Try to reassure that help is on the way. 👉Loosen tight clothing Please share this life-saving knowledge with those who can benefit. In the next post, we are going to be delving into the question: Is Asthma transmitted from mother to child? You don't want to miss this episode. Follow us for more as this month at PREGNANCY SUPPORT FOUNDATION, we are dedicated to learning about Asthma In Pregnancy. Let’s continue in the next post, shall we? When Every Breath Matters... Joy was overjoyed to be pregnant, but something felt wrong. She found herself gasping for air, her chest tightening, and even simple tasks left her breathless. It wasn’t just pregnancy—it was ASTHMA. ASTHMA symptoms during pregnancy can be: Shortness of breath Wheezing Chest tightness. If left unmanaged, it can affect both mother and her unborn child or children in case of twins. But Joy got help. With the right care, she learned to manage her asthma and protect her baby’s health. If you're pregnant and struggling to breathe, don’t wait, get assistance as early as possible. At Pregnancy Support Foundation 💖we’re here to support you because every breath counts for you and your baby. #pregnancysupport #AsthmaInPregnancy #BreatheForTwo #october2024

I am happy to announce that Our 6th Medical Outreach was a massive success💃 This outreach held in the Lema community, Kaduna State and more than 180 women of childbearing age were present. The representative of the Sarkin of the community and other community leaders were also in attendance. One special thing about this outreach was the presence of men/husbands. There were more than 15 in attendance. Men are welcome at Pregnancy Support Foundation online and offline programmes because they are the gatekeepers and decision-makers in many African homes. Educating and enlightening the man is equal to greater effectiveness as his support for his wife or daughter-in-law will be well-informed During the event: -Health education on all-round support was given -Blood pressure monitoring was done -Health counselling was done -Delivery packs were also given to all mothers/participants. Special thanks to all our team members, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and partner Information Technologies Hub And Cynosure (ITHAC) God bless you all. To watch the summary video of the event, click here: https://lnkd.in/dUshyG5q Check out our beautiful outreach pictures in the comments section. As an organisation, we are open to internship applications, sponsorships, collaborations and partnerships. Cheers to greater impact!
