@officialblueytv says it best: "Work on their heads later. For now, just hearts." As a teacher, my philosophy was to develop the whole child; not just academically, but also socially and emotionally. It never failed; whenever I helped a child hone in on these skills, their academics improved. I remember going to my undergraduate and graduate programs, and this was a novel concept to a number of my professors and classmates. What would I do? How would this look in the classroom? With my students, we would practice meditation everyday with @headspace , we discussed different social scenarios and what to do, we developed a strong sense of community and always looked out for each other, I emphasized how amazing they each were and taught them how to point out the inner attributes of an individual, and respect always went both ways. Now as a stay-at-home mom, I have the opportunity to continue this important work with the journals we've made at Prep and Reflect. Right now, we have ages 4-7 and 8-10 years old, and there are plans to create journals for the next 8 years. Did you know you can start writing letters to your child well after they were born? I had a few minutes this morning, so I sat down and flipped through my daughter 's photos from when she was 1 to 2 years old, and I got to fill in the first page of our Compose & Recapture journal. This was truly a meaningful experience for me. I got to revisit all of those baby photos and videos, and write down what those memories captured all in one beautiful place.
