Creating a Generation of Diverse Leaders

About us

Prep for Prep develops future leaders by creating access for young people of color to first-rate educational, leadership development, and professional advancement opportunities. Since 1978, Prep has identified New York City’s most promising students of color and prepared them for placement at independent schools in the city and boarding schools throughout the Northeast. Once placed, Prep offers support and opportunities to ensure the academic accomplishment and personal growth of each one of our students. The expression, “Leaders Don’t Just Happen,” inspires everything we do. Over 5,000 members of the Prep Community, who are rapidly assuming leadership positions in a wide variety of endeavors, are living proof that the potential for academic and professional success exists in all ethnic groups and socioeconomic classes.

Congratulations to Alain Silverio (V/Riverdale '89, Georgetown '93) MA, Union Theological '00; MEd, Teachers College '11; EdS, St. Peter's ’21! He is the latest recipient of Riverdale Country School’s Ernest McAneny Alumni Spirit Award, which was presented at the school’s all-reunion class cocktail reception last month. This award is traditionally presented to a member of the alumni body in recognition and appreciation of consistent, broad, and substantial service to Riverdale that has had a distinct impact on the school. Alain’s dedication as a Class Correspondent who keeps his classmates connected to each other and the school, as well as his commitment to helping Riverdale in any way he can, truly embodies the spirit of this award. About receiving the honor, Alain said, “Riverdale has been a part of my life for a great amount of time, and I am who I am partly because of them and because of the people I’ve met at Riverdale. I give, I do, I honor the place because it gave to me, honored me, and helped me in the process of growing up.”

#PrepPride Natalya Davis (XVII/Chapin '00, Harvard '04) MA, Northwestern '07 creates spaces for Black Harvard alumni ❤️ #PrepAlumni

Deciding to quarterback the planning of Harvard Black Alumni Weekend with my co-chair Lisa Jones Gentry was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The journey was nothing short of transformative, fueled by our love for a community we cherish deeply. Thank you to all the attendees, moderators, panelists, speakers, and volunteers. A special thank you to the HBAS Award recipients: Claudine Gay, Alvin Bragg, Loretta Lynch, Margaret Anadu and Courtney B Vance (not pictured), as well as our keynote speakers and moderators, David Sengeh, Deval Patrick, Benaree Wiley, Hill Harper, and Soledad O'Brien and awards MC Eugene Scott. In early 2023, my friend Azhar Richmond informed other friend Monica M. Clark that I was serious about waiting to pla the first HBAW, which had been a decade in the making due to COVID. This led to my connection with the phenomenal woman, legend, partner, and friend, Lisa Jones-Gentry. Monica and the Harvard Black Alumni Society board trusted us to bring the Harvard Black Alumni Global Changemakers Conference to life. The celebration, open to alumni from ALL of Harvard’s schools, showcased excellence and engagement at a pivotal time for Harvard and in history. A special thank you to the Harvard Alumni Association, Sharon Jarrett and her team at Jarrett Affairs, Doreen Rainey, and David Hill for their incredible partnership, commitment, and flexibility throughout the event. May we all continue to radiate the inspiration, joy, and connection we felt over the weekend in our everyday lives, industries, and the world. #HBAS
