🚨 Safety First: Detecting Natural Gas Leaks 🚨 Stay alert and keep your family safe by knowing how to spot a natural gas leak! Use your senses: 👃 Smell: Look for the unmistakable odor of rotten eggs or burnt matches—it's added to natural gas for easy detection. 👂 Sound: Listen for a hissing or blowing sound that may indicate a leak. 👀 Sight: Watch for dead or discolored vegetation, unusually dry soil, or bubbling in wet areas. If you suspect a gas leak, evacuate the area immediately and call for help! Your safety is our priority. IN THE CASE OF A GAS EMERGENCY CALL 1-800-655-8565

Last week, our President and CEO, Allan Berg, presented a $5,000 check to New Beginnings Ministries on behalf of our Communities First Fund Initiative. The generosity of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op members plays a vital role in enabling the PIE&G Community First Fund (CFF) to support individuals and organizations in need throughout our service areas. Managed by an independent, all-volunteer board, the CFF is funded by members who opt to "round up" their energy bills to the next whole dollar—typically averaging just 50 cents per month for participants. This small contribution creates a BIG impact in Northeast Michigan. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/ga9aiJyZ. - - - #communityfirst #givingback #piegcoop #electriccoop #smalltownpride

Have you checked out this month's Michigan Country Lines? There's a spotlight on the Onaway V.F.W. and the energy-efficient upgrades that will benefit the community. We love helping organizations save on their energy expenses; ultimately, it helps them use those savings towards programming and helping the community. Check out page 12! https://lnkd.in/gN9enjYu

Have you ever wondered why there is a service charge included on your bill? Let us explain... Presque Isle Electric & Gas has listed an availability charge (service charge) on your electric and gas bills for years. Often, people ask why they have to pay an availability charge when they received no service. Our answer to that is simple; this charge represents the cost to always have electric and gas distribution services available to you, even if you are not using electricity or gas. The cooperative incurs numerous costs to maintain our distribution systems that are not related to the consumption of energy. Some of these costs include taxes, depreciation, and insurance on the equipment in the field, plus the maintenance of our lines and substations that supply your service. The cost to maintain poles, wires (overhead and underground), and/or transformers that are in place to serve your residence do not go up when you use more electricity or gas, and those costs do not go down when you use less electricity or gas. These costs remain relatively constant. It makes sense for us to collect the revenue needed to recover these costs in the same way.

The mutual aid linemen we deployed to Florida last week are working alongside the Withlacoochee Co-op. The photos they've shared show extensive damage, but the cooperative spirit is alive and well as they join thousands of linemen from across the country to restore power to Florida residents. We couldn't be more proud of their hard work and dedication, and we eagerly await their safe return home to Michigan. #wreccoop #piegcoop #electriccoop #nationalcooperativemonth #hurricainemilton #coopmonth
