Creating a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all.
About us
The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is the only U.S.-based nonprofit organization solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection. Through research, education, outreach and advocacy, we have helped countless people avoid a cancer diagnosis or detect their cancer early enough to be successfully treated. We are driven by a vision of a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable. The Foundation is rising to meet the challenge of reducing cancer deaths by 40% by 2035. To achieve this, we are committed to investing $20 million for innovative technologies to detect cancer early and advance multi-cancer screening, $10 million to expand cancer screening and vaccination access to medically underserved communities, and $10 million to educate the public about screening and vaccination options. For more information, please visit www.preventcancer.org. Stay in touch with us! Sign up to receive one (or more) of our newsletters at www.preventcancer.org/newsletter.

#HispanicHeritageMonth wraps up next week, and we’ve loved sharing some of the past and present Foundation-funded organizations that are supporting their local Latino communities. Last but not least is Nueva Vida, whose mission is to inform, support and empower Latino families affected by cancer, and to advocate for and facilitate the timely access to state-of-the-art cancer care. During their grant year, Nueva Vida provided group education charlas (informal discussions), mammograms, pelvic exams, and colonoscopies and distributed over 1,400 COVID-19 and cancer fact sheets to Latino families who are uninsured. Shout out to Program Manager Sandra Villa de Leon and Director of Research Laura Ann Logie, Ph.D. for all your hard work helping others achieve #BetterOutcomes! To all our partners who are helping Latinos achieve better health outcomes, thank you. Do you need resources you can share (in English or Spanish) to do the same in your community? Thank you to Julia Lichtman Kepniss and the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer for sharing need-to-know information on a topic we won’t stop talking about: The rise of young-onset cancer cases. When young women are diagnosed with breast cancer, the cancer is often aggressive and harder to treat, such as triple negative breast cancer. The reasons for this are not yet fully understood. Learn more on this—and what you can do if you are under age 40 to take charge of your #BreastHealth: https://lnkd.in/ebRN6f3V

It’s another #HispanicHeritageMonth spotlight and we’re proud to introduce you to the Dignity Health Mercy & Memorial Hospitals. In 2019, funding from the Prevent Cancer Foundation helped Dignity Health expand their reach, clearing up misconceptions about breast health and sharing the need for breast health education at a younger age. Through their Community Wellness Program, Dignity Health California reached 700+ low-income, medically underserved women with free breast cancer education led by a bilingual health education coordinator. Their services are for all ages. Thank you to Dignity Health Bakersfield team for your continued dedication to reaching medically underserved Latinas with #BreastCancer education!

🔍 Early Detection = Better Outcomes, but insurance can make or break preventing cancer or finding it early. That’s according to the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 2024 Early Detection survey, which indicated adults without health insurance are over two times more likely to say they haven’t had a routine medical appointment or cancer screening in the last year compared to those with health insurance. Additionally, U.S. adults who are employed with PTO more often reported having a routine medical appointment or cancer screening than employed adults who do not have PTO. The question remains—how can we ensure everyone can achieve better outcomes for their health? Learn more and read our findings: https://lnkd.in/e7AFrcYD

This October, it’s likely that pink will be the dominant color across your feeds. Raise your hand if this isn’t the first post you’re seeing about #BreastCancer this month. ✋✋✋ Beyond the #ThinkPink mantra, we want to #ThinkScreening! Breast cancer is highly curable if found early. Unfortunately, many breast cancers are diagnosed once it has already spread. Early Detection = Better Outcomes, so this month, we’re reminding everyone how it’s important to get screened, reduce your risk, and talk with your health care provider about your health history. Don’t know where to start? Take the screening quiz to learn if you’re eligible for breast cancer screening (and learn what other screenings you’re eligible for too): https://lnkd.in/eCRe4SSZ How are you or your organization going beyond #ThinkingPink this month? Let us know in the comments. 👇

We are feeling tremendous gratitude today. Last week, thanks to the support of our sponsors and generous donors like you, we raised over $2.1 million for cancer prevention and early detection! Proceeds from #PreventCancerGala will support the Prevent Cancer Foundation's programs—including research grants, fellowships and community grants—and public education campaigns like Early Detection = Better Outcomes. That’s cause for celebration! 🎉💚 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e-ctq4EE

For the next #HispanicHeritageMonth spotlight, we’re celebrating the work of Erie Family Health Centers, recipient of a 2021 Prevent Cancer Foundation grant. Their Breast Cancer Continuum of Care Program addresses the language, cultural, financial and logistical barriers Latina women may face in accessing breast cancer screenings on Chicago’s West Side. Here's how they help Latinas access screenings: - Referring patients for low/no-cost mammograms. - Making sure people follow through and get those screenings by sending text, email and phone call reminders. - Doing outreach to deliver proactive breast health education and provide linkage to resources. We’re in awe of Liliana Luna and the whole team’s great work!
