Preventing addiction, supporting recovery, and strengthening families in New Jersey. #BuildingLinksToBrighterFutures

About us

Prevention Links is a community-led nonprofit organization with an extensive track record in building a brighter future for communities in New Jersey through innovative addiction prevention, recovery, and family programs. With community being defined as any environment where people live, work, or learn, our goal is to pull together all available resources to eliminate the deleterious effects of drugs, alcohol, violence, and inadequate educational and health institutions in our communities. Our mission is to foster healthy, sustainable communities by empowering people through education, collaboration, and by serving as the linkage to resources. Established in 1971 as one of The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) satellite offices, our history is extensive and founded on the belief that addiction is preventable and treatable. Our work focuses on identifying and enhancing existing strengths within the individual, family, school, and work setting to serve as the first and most valuable resource in sustainable revitalization of all types of community. Through implementing training programs and evidence-based strategies; using practices and programs that are outcome-based; and inviting community members to express their needs and the best ways to meet them, we empower all segments of the community to be actively engaged in changing their environments.

We've thanked our community, we’ve thanked our walkers, we’ve thanked our sponsors, and we’ve thanked our exhibitors… but now it’s time to shine the spotlight on our incredible team! 🌟 Each and every one of you played a vital role in bringing this year’s Red Ribbon Day Family Fun Festival and Awareness Walk to life, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished together. From the early planning stages, coordinating with partners and vendors, to the countless hours spent on setup, organization, and the small details that make all the difference – your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm created an unforgettable day of connection, support, and fun for our community 💜 Every smile, every activity, every shared moment of awareness and celebration happened because of YOU. Thank you for going above and beyond to bring our mission to life and making Red Ribbon Day a success for everyone who attended.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the Red Ribbon Day Awareness Walk! 👟❤️ This walk wasn’t just a chance to get moving—it was a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight against substance use and its impact on our communities. Throughout the walk, participants were educated through signs highlighting key facts about substance use, its prevention, and recovery, making each step a moment of learning and reflection. The walking path, lined with red balloons, served as a powerful symbol of our shared commitment to this cause. One of the most moving parts of the walk was the flag garden, featuring purple, white, and red flags. Each purple flag represented 500 individuals in New Jersey who received a life-saving Naloxone administration in 2024. Each white flag honored 500 people who sought treatment for substance use disorder, and each red flag symbolized the 500 people still in need of that critical treatment. Your participation helps spread awareness and inspires hope 💜 #RedRibbonDay #SubstanceUsePrevention #RecoveryAwareness #HopeAndHealing

Christopher Tarashuk wrapped up his final day as a dedicated employee at Prevention Links this past September, but that didn’t stop him from lacing up his sneakers for our Red Ribbon Awareness Walk. This year’s walk held special significance for Christopher, who walked in memory of individuals impacted by substance use, dedicating his strides to raise awareness and advocate for prevention efforts. Red Ribbon Day is a powerful event aimed at uniting our community in the fight against substance use, honoring those in recovery, and remembering lives lost. Christopher’s participation highlights his deep commitment to this cause, reminding us all that prevention and recovery are lifelong endeavors.
