Happy Friday! Jon Barker had an excellent time at the National 8(a) Association conference in ATL. While participating in this panel discussion about GSA contracts, the topic of competitive rate analysis came up and I wanted to share this video we did on an excellent tool called GSA calc. Hope this helps someone out there 👊🏼 https://lnkd.in/eXCxVzP4

Finally got around to making another YouTube video on how folks can better leverage no cost #govcon resources And in the process found some federal opportunities on Sam.gov that are for #IDIQ contract holders that IMHO don’t belong on #samgov Which is annoying to me… anyone else feel this way? This specific email was for current contract opportunities in #northcarolina yet some of them are expired yet still flagged as active. Wish GSA would fix that at some point…

It's been a while since we made a video... YouTube decided to pull one down on us a few months back, and it's taken some time to reclaim that momentum... This is a short video about the automated emails that anyone with a SAM account can create. With a specific set of queries tailored to your unique business. I find them helpful to set up for clients and prospects to help them narrow down #govcon opportunities. https://lnkd.in/e-jRs4aa

I don't know who needs to see this... But Jon Barker keeps seeing folks selling #govcon products and services in 2024 that talk about FBO, beta.sam.gov, and DUNS numbers... And you can tell this information is dated as all of those things are no longer relevant today, and haven't been for a couple of years now. So watch out for certain clues from content that needs to be refreshed, generated from AI, or worse, pilfered from REAL experts.

Always be learning and networking! Supporting my friends today over at Cape Fear Community College and NCMBC Team in Jerry Coleman and Olivia Chavez~Carroll, respectively. Olivia did an excellent job in teaching all she knows about #govcon and teaching #smallbusiness on how to break into this multi-BILLION 💰 dollar market. Bonus for Jon Barker is to be able to network with more #wilmingtonnc folks interested in federal government contracting. You just never know where these relationships will take you down the road... Great job Olivia and Jerry 👏🏼and thank you for the opportunity!

Happy New Year! For all your recompetes in 2024, get some fresh perspective on how your competitors can beat you. Do yourself a favor, have an honest assessment of your contract performance, dust off your old proposal, and the debrief... Think about how your competitors can beat you on technical and price, based on the original criteria, and your knowledge of where the effort is going. Plant the seeds 🌱 NOW with your customer to influence the evaluation to your favor to better protect your turf. Talk to your staff and have a game plan on retaining your high performers, tap into their insights into challenges and opportunities with the customer, and figure out who else they are talking to. Oh and pricing. Figure out how to get lean and mean.

Have you ever heard of the term incumbentitis? This term refers to a company that has grown complacent with its service to their customer under its current contract. They often have wage growth over and above industry standards during the course of performance. I've seen too many companies that suffered from this ailment. They were too proud (afraid) to admit it, and it cost them the recompete. The gory details are the debrief. Technical evaluations were "acceptable" and the price was 17% above the winner, who was also rated higher technically. It's no wonder that the incumbent did not win. It didn't stop them from protesting... yet that is a story for another day. In order to combat incumbentitis, there are a couple of things an organization must do. Do everything you can to ensure that your customer includes requirements and qualifications that only your firm can satisfy. This is called positioning a contract. Consider promoting your high performers into other labor categories so they are not too expensive compared to their position description. A more difficult decision must be made for the underperformers. When the solicitation finally comes out; do not overthink it. Only bid the requirement(s) that are called for and nothing more. If you are properly positioned to win, this should not be an issue as all your requirements will be included. When you're not properly positioned, this becomes critical as I've seen too many capture managers tell me that they "know what the customer wants" and when I argue to simply "bid the RFP." There are many facets to go into winning work with the Government. Even successful firms suffer from incumbentitis from time-to-time. If you are worried about your #govcon organization being complacent, please feel to reach out to #PTW for an independent competitive assessment of your firm. Thanks and make it a great week!
