Go Prince George’s was out in the community last week listening to residents’ concerns about US 301, one of the region’s most important corridors. This was a fantastic town hall meeting hosted by Prince George’s County Councilmembers Ingrid Watson and Wala Blegay and a great opportunity for planners, Maryland State Highway Administration, and our elected representatives in Annapolis to listen to residents, establish relationships to address current traffic challenges and present the ongoing collaboration between the City of Bowie, Maryland, Prince George's County, Maryland, and the State of Maryland to identify and implement long-term solutions in the corridor. US 301 is a primary alternative to the I-95 between Carmel Church, VA, and Wilmington, DE, while also hosting a variety of suburban neighborhoods and shopping centers in Bowie, MD. Separating regional and truck traffic from local traffic was a principal recommendation of the 2022 Approved Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan and will be a focus of Go Prince George’s. Stay tuned. pgplan.org/go #GoPG

In Prince George's County, we are making great strides in climate resilience! We are moving closer to reaching our Climate Action Plan's carbon emissions goal of 50% reduction by 2030, compared to our 2005 levels. Informed by our Climate Action Implementation Task Force, we are ambitiously tackling climate change in our County. #PGCHealthy County Executive Angela Alsobrooks launched our Climate Action Implementation Task Force back in 2022, and they recently delivered on our Climate Action Implementation Strategies Report which details recommendations that can help us progress towards being a more climate resilient County. Thank you to our task force members for their commitment, as we are more than grateful for their hard work on this report! Beautification has been one of our Proud Priorities from the beginning of the Alsobrooks Administration, and we're #PrinceGeorgesProud to have invested tens of millions of dollars into initiatives and programs across the government to improve the health of our environment and the beauty of our County. The impact that these initiatives and programs have had on our community is a promising demonstration of their effectiveness. What can re-entry look like in your community? In Prince George’s County, we work with amazing business partners and community leaders to offer mentorship, transitional housing, document preparation, and employment opportunities to our returning citizens. We are taking these necessary steps in an effort to lower recidivism across our County by ensuring successful work and life transitions of our formerly incarcerated residents. ✅ Watch these clips of our recently launched “Returning to Success” podcast on YouTube, hosted by our Returning Citizens Affairs Division (RCAD) Director, Michael Williams, MPA. Von discusses with Michael his story of turning around his situation and getting back on his feet after incarceration. Watch the full podcast episode on County Executive Alsobrooks’ YouTube: https://lnkd.in/ebn7xa9Y Through Von’s dedication to improvement and through coordination with RCAD, he is on his way to becoming a Masonry Mechanic with the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation. Von is now setting an example and leading others who may relate to his story towards a more fulfilled life and work that better serves our communities. Success stories like Von’s are possible. Find more success stories from other formerly incarcerated residents working with RCAD on our podcast. This work is made possible by our many amazing partners and community leaders, as well as through grant funding. #PGCSafeNeighborhoods Learn more about how employers and organization can get involved in our re-entry initiatives & programs at: mypgc.us/RCAD

Last weekend, our Municipalities Liaison, Doretea L. Burton, attended the Windom Road Historic Barrier Park unveiling in North Brentwood. During segregation, a physical barrier was erected to separate the towns of North Brentwood and Brentwood. Through partnerships with our County Government, M-NCPPC, the Neighborhood Design Center, and others, this barrier was replaced with a sculptural art installation and park. We want to congratulate Mayor Rocio Treminio-Lopez of Brentwood and Mayor Petrella Robinson of North Brentwood as well as their residents for their show of unity and perseverance in having this project completed. #PrinceGeorgesProud
