Today’s post is extra special. This is a photo of my mom and me in the John Morgan Building at the University of Pennsylvania. As a kid, I used to run around these halls while shadowing my mom when I had days off from school. It was here that my journey into the life sciences industry began—my mom pushed me to stay out of the street and find something productive. Little did I know, those early days would shape my path forward. Now, as the proud founder of Pristinology, I get to walk these halls again—but this time, leading our own team and serving the same industry that has given me so much. The other photo is me and my daughter, who’s already showing an interest in science at an early age. It’s incredible to pass down the same lessons and passion that my mom instilled in me. Science runs in our family, and it’s an honor to continue this journey with both my past and my future right by my side. It's a new week, and thus a new #TakeOver. We're welcoming Emanuel Ortiz and Pristinology to the hive!! 🐝 Manny Ortiz is the founder of #Pristinology, the first #Latino-owned scientific cleaning company in Philadelphia, providing specialized cleaning services for the life sciences industry. Born and raised in North #Philly, Manny combines his passion for scientific excellence with a deep commitment to quality and integrity. Under his leadership, Pristinology has become a trusted partner for labs and research facilities, ensuring safe, sterile environments that support groundbreaking work. Here's a little Q&A session to get to know Manny a bit better. 🤓 1. What’s one work-related skill you’re currently trying to improve? I'm always striving to improve my #leadership skills, especially in mentoring and helping the next generation navigate the life sciences industry, much like how I was guided early on. 2. Who in your life has inspired you most? It’s a tie between my mother and my daughter. My mom was my first mentor, helping me enter the life sciences world as a teenager. Now, my daughter has completely changed my perspective, giving me a renewed drive to be my best self for her. Both mean the world to me in different but equally powerful ways. 3. What fictional family would you be a member of? I’d say The Incredibles. They’re a family that sticks together no matter what, balancing their individual strengths while supporting each other through the ups and downs. As a father, I connect with that—being a protector but also learning from my kids and growing as a family. Plus, who wouldn’t want to have some superpowers on the side? 4. What would the title of your autobiography be? Clean to the Core: From North Philly to the Life Sciences Industry 5. If you could write a book, what genre would it be? I’m actually in the process of writing a children's motivational book called FAN. It's the story of a small fan tossed out by neglectful owners but eventually finding a family that cares for him. With proper maintenance and cleaning, he finally operates at full potential—just like we all do with the right care and support. The message? Never give up; you never know what the next opportunity might bring. 6. Road trip or plane trip? Plane trip, all day! I need a vacation ASAP, and my family and I are overdue for a tropical getaway. Mexico, here we come! 7. Snow, Sand, or Other? Definitely sand! Fun fact: I’m actually allergic to the cold. If I'm out too long, I break out in hives, so summer sand wins every time. Snow is fun for a few minutes, but I’ll stick to the warm weather. 8. What’s one frequently used word that you can’t stand? I’d have to say “literally.” It’s overused, and 90% of the time, it’s not even literal!
