FICTION At our AXIS AFFINITY SUMMIT, parent affinity group leaders and Axis Student Interns from across our Partner Schools tackled the importance of affinity in predominantly white schools and debunked common myths. (The lights went out, but the learning still happened!) REALITY: Affinity groups are not about dividing people, but providing safe spaces for individuals to discuss shared experiences freely and address issues unique to their identity. MYTH 2️⃣: Affinity groups are unnecessary in a diverse society. REALITY: Even in diverse environments, systemic inequalities and microaggressions still exist. Affinity groups help members process these challenges, share resources, and push for change. MYTH 3️⃣: Affinity groups lead to “reverse discrimination.” REALITY: Affinity groups are not about excluding others. Trained volunteers provide them with personalized feedback and tips. This experience helps both our students and families feel confident and empowered to shine as their authentic selves in their admissions interviews. Axis offers a series of test prep sessions designed to equip our students with the tools they need to be confident and prepared for the ISEE, the private school entrance exam. Through multiple sessions, students learn test-taking strategies, gain insight into the test format, and receive access to practice tests.
