I was fired once for refusing to do my job the way my boss wanted it done. I worked at a hospital then and cared for very sick patients as a dietitian and diabetes educator. She had a quota to meet that didn't reflect the quality of the job done. She needed to meet a quantity metric that didn't have anything to do with the quality of work we were doing. I was more concerned with helping people than hitting a number. That magic number was 10 patients per day. When taking care of a newly diagnosed patient with cancer, diabetes, or heart disease, you can't provide all that's needed in 15 minutes. Empathy and compassion can't be rushed. Besides, who is really listening to advice on diet, exercise, and hydration when their world is turned upside down with a diagnosis that's permanently changed their lives? It was more important to hold their hand and listen to their fears than to hit that 10-patient quota. I did listen, and I offered them hope that they could not just survive, but thrive. I often wonder what would have happened if I had focused on pleasing my boss instead of caring deeply for my patients. #theb3way #motivation #leadership #mindset

What's the most important ingredient for success? I know that my self-defeating daily habits kept me stuck for the longest time. Inconsistency, though, was what slowed my progress when I decided to change. It wasn't until I: ✨got up at the same time every day regardless of my schedule ✨made time for my self-care daily, regardless of the stress and challenges of the day ✨meditated to clear and quiet my mind ✨focused on my intentions for the day with a to-do list based on my vision/purpose My success came from consistency. It was the daily habits that contributed to getting me one step closer to where I wanted to be. What self-defeating daily habits are keeping you stuck? Need help with getting unstuck and being consistent? Click on the link to my to take that first step. https://lnkd.in/eD9wGP94 #business #motivation #theb3way

How do you interpret the saying "tip the scale"? One definition is to change the fortunes, either positively or negatively. I choose to imagine it to be a positive change.😉 I still get on the scale to see if it's going in the right direction, but it's the consistency of my habits that matter most. Now, instead of reacting to a number, I know that reflecting on my habits for the week is a more powerful scale. Change one choice at a time will tip the scale (whether mental or physical) positively! What do you do to tip the scale in your favor? #business #theb3way #nutrition

Do you have weeds growing that you are ignoring? Just like my garden, even when things are growing beautifully in your life, if you don't pull the "weeds", you're going to regret it. Take time to pull the weeds from the root, fill the holes, and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. By the way, it's easier to pull the weeds with a tool, especially before they go to seed (like the dandelion in the picture) and spread! What "weeds" are you going to pull today? Thinking about using a coach? DM me. #theb3way #business #motivation

Can you turn your attitude into gratitude? It goes back 10,000 years, so it's not a new concept. You can find this advice among ancient Hindu scriptures, woven into Chinese, Aztec, and Iroquois cultures, in the old and new testament, the Koran, the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, and at any personal and professional transformation seminar. Celebrating life through an attitude of gratitude recognizes that the choices being made, both big and small, aren't easy, and it is important to always take a moment to be thankful for all that you have. Every time you reflect upon what you are grateful for, it creates a positive reinforcement loop that helps build momentum. The beauty of this mindset is that it can be applied to every aspect of life. Do you take the time to celebrate the little victories in your life? #business #theb3way #gratitude #inspiration

What are you procrastinating about because you are dreading doing it this week? I always get overwhelmed by Spring cleanup in the garden. Every year I put off doing the inevitable because of my headtrash; "this is going to take so long to complete. My back is going to start aching, I'm going get cut by the prickers, I don't have the time to do this." I could come up with more, but you get the picture- excuses not to get to work. I usually wait too long and miss out on something I really enjoy, especially the early bloomers. But once I get started, I realize it's not as bad as I thought. This year, I decided to take 30 minutes intervals starting in February, on warmer days, and do what I could in that time and devote at least a few days per week to the task so I could enjoy the early Spring bulbs that put on a show on the first warm days of March. I'm happy to report, the garden is almost ready for Spring! The Arnold Promise Witch Hazel is in full bloom (look up or you'll miss it!). The big perennial bed is cleaned out, the roses are trimmed, the peony bed is ready for new growth, and the Japanese Snow Fountain Cherry is getting ready to put on its show for April. The point of the story? Sometimes, life gets overwhelming. Break it down into bite-sized junks of things to do, and you will make progress. Along the way, you will learn a lot about what you are working on so that you can nurture it, encourage it, remove any obstacles, and get ready for it to bloom in all its glory. Share your stories of procrastination and how you overcame it.👇 #business #motivation #theb3way

Are you in touch with your Circadian Code? Imagine there were rhythms in your body just like are rhythms to the seasons, to the tide, to your breathing, and to your heartbeat. A Circadian Code is a rhythm that cycles every 24 hours that restores and improves your health. When you are healthy, you can have a good night's sleep, wake up fueled and refreshed and energetic, ready for work. Your gut functions perfectly normally without indigestion, bloat, or irregularity. You have a clear mind with the clarity of thoughts, You have a healthy hunger that gets satisfied when you feed it. At night you are tired enough to lay your head on the pillow and drift off to restful sleep in a few minutes. What if you could learn the rhythms of your body and find a new relationship with your life that would: • Help you lose weight • Improve our moods • Sharpen your concentration • Increase your athletic performance • Get a better night's sleep • Reduce your stress • Increase your energy levels How would your life change? #business #theb3way #nutrition

Does skipping out on a full night's sleep cause more cravings during the day? It's not been easy for me to get a good night's sleep lately. I've been dealing with sore muscles from training harder. I also have a lot on my mind with a growing business, dealing with January's losses (my Mother-in-law, Ruth, Gracie my Portuguese Water Dog, and Meisha, my cat passed away within the first 3 weeks!), and the aftermath of winter. Even with a solid 7 hours, I've recently found myself craving certain foods that don't make it as easy to reach my health and fitness goals. It made me wonder, if I have these challenges, what about the average person? Why does sleep have such a positive impact? Your circadian rhythms are impacted by two hormones that influence your appetite and cravings. They also seem to be dependent on your quality and quantity of sleep: • Ghrelin- it's a hormone released by your stomach to let you know it's time to eat. It increases the longer you go without food and the lower your blood sugar gets. • Leptin-Fat cells release this hormone, which decreases your appetite after a meal is eaten. The more fat cells you have, the more Leptin is produced. These two hormones seem to have a seesaw effect in the body and are influenced by the amount of sleep you get. It's much more complicated than this, but there are chemical, electrical, and mechanical mechanisms that works between your gut and your brain to drive your hunger, fullness, and satiety. The less sleep, the more disruptive it is to these mechanisms. Research shows that overweight and obese people produce less Ghrelin and higher levels of Leptin. Just as people with diabetes have insulin resistance, those who are overweight, obese, and/or sleep-deprived have leptin resistance. You can keep this important regulatory system intact by getting a restful night's sleep. The research suggests anywhere from 7 ½ to 8 ½ hours of sleep per night will keep your ghrelin and leptin levels normal. If you are having challenges with your sleep, it's good to know that exercise also helps keep the hormone-regulated seesaw balance intact and if you're finding yourself craving foods when you aren't really hungry, consider getting in the habit of sleeping 7 ½ to 8 ½ hours per night. I call this The Rhythm of Eating. Lifelong habits will hinder or enhance your sleep, hunger, fullness, ability to lose fat, and overall health and wellness. Choose sleep and you're choosing health and wellness. Do you have challenges with sleep? #theb3way #business #motivation
