I recently had the honor of serving as an #AEOExpert at an event hosted by Honduras Customs, aimed at promoting the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program. During the event, I explored global trends within the AEO framework and shared insights on expanding its reach beyond traditional customs authorities to engage other border agencies, such as health and commerce departments. The primary goal of expanding the AEO program is to streamline trade processes for trusted businesses, reduce the inspection burden for border authorities, and foster stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors. This gathering brought together international experts in trade facilitation and customs, who participated in forums, panels, and presentations to highlight best practices and the latest trends in AEO. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of this important event and to contribute to the ongoing conversation on improving trade facilitation and customs processes. Protectionism or Climate Action? The recent decision by the European Union to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles has sparked a heated debate. Are we truly prioritizing the fight against climate change, or are we protecting local industries in the short term? With tariffs ranging from 17% to 38%, the EU aims to protect its automotive industry, but at the same time, it might be slowing down the transition to more sustainable mobility. The data already shows a decline in registrations of Chinese vehicles in Europe. Are we witnessing a setback in the adoption of green technologies? Question for you: Should the EU continue to protect its automotive industry or focus on leading global climate action, regardless of where the solutions come from? ¿Proteccionismo o acción climática? Hace unos días, tuve el honor de participar en el panel "Electrificando el presente y el futuro: Redefiniendo los procesos y la cadena de valor automotriz". Es fascinante observar cómo la automatización y la tecnología de la información están transformando progresivamente la industria automotriz, con la Industria 4.0 a la vanguardia de esta revolución mediante la fabricación inteligente. Asimismo, considero que la creación de polos de desarrollo industrial podría ser una estrategia eficaz para revitalizar regiones y atraer industrias estratégicas. Fue un privilegio compartir este espacio con líderes visionarios y expertos como Ricardo Apaez, Alejandro Canela y Alberto Piñones, quienes aportaron perspectivas valiosas. Este tipo de intercambios enriquece a nuestros equipos, ofrece nuevas herramientas y fomenta una cultura de innovación.
