A recent paper, involving Gro Holst Volden and Knut Samset, highlights the critical role of the front-end stage in project success. The article explores the unique challenges and trade-offs faced during this phase. Effective management at the front-stage can significantly enhance project outcomes by selecting the best potential projects, defining goals, and ensuring alignment with organizational strategy. Our article in Production Planning & Control (ABDC ranking: A) demonstrates the value of integrating an advanced deep learning technique for sentiment analysis with a classical approach to forecasting in the context of sourcing decisions in oil and gas companies. In this study, we compare a number of deep learning models (#Conv1D (1D convolutional layer), #LSTM (long short-term memory), #BiLSTM (bidirectional LSTM), #BERT (bidirectional encoder representations from transformers), #DistilBERT (a distilled version of BERT), #XLNet (an autoregressive transformer)) for sentiment analysis. We then incorporated the resulting parameter into forecasting models. The approach developed in this study would be useful to practitioners and researchers working in other industry contexts as well. 🔍 The new #DiSAResearchContribution is about the successful implementation of discrete event simulation, integrating design thinking. 📚 The paper addresses the overcrowding problem in an emergency department by designing and developing a hybrid methodology that combines design thinking with discrete event simulation.
