We've been active for years developing and implementing advanced methods and tools for asset management in the built environment and contributed to the National Academies study BIM and Beyond (2020) where we defined the opportunity to enhance the asset life cycle management approach for airport managers who oversee highly complex and mission-critical environments by using Building Management Systems (BIM). Speakers at the Opportunities for Digital Twins in the Built Environment workshop acknowledged BIM as the foundation for digital twins, and pointed out that the key to realizing the benefit of digital twins is placing the BIM and sensor data in context. They also recognized the challenges in connecting multi-modal and multi-dimensional data across silos, and cautioned that machine learning from more data related to these complex systems-of-systems, as promoted by current AI methods, quickly leads to the computationally "intractable." We couldn't agree more, and are excited to be working with methods and tools ideally suited to provide context, bridge data silos of multi-modal/multi-dimensional data, and connect small and wide data sets to avoid cost-prohibitive/unachievable computing. https://lnkd.in/eNCPh7Am
