Running to BEAT pancreatic cancer.

About us

Pancreatic cancer has one of the highest mortality rates of all cancers -- the 3rd highest in the U.S. -- yet it receives the least funding of all the top ten cancers. We envision a world without pancreatic cancer. To that end, Project Purple participates in a variety of events and campaigns to raise funds for our two main programs: research into early detection methods and a cure, and providing financial aid to pancreatic cancer patients currently struggling with the burden or medical and living expenses. "My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008. After a year of treatments we thought he had cleared the woods, but it reared its ugly head again, and on September 5th 2011, my dad died. I started Project Purple in an effort to help raise awareness for this horrible disease in the hope that our contribution will help researchers find a cure." - Dino Verrelli, Founder & CEO of Project Purple

Meet Meg Barber. She is the head women's basketball coach at NYU. Meg played basketball at NYU and has built an impressive coaching resume, having coached at D1 and D2 schools before returning to NYU. Meg has run the NYC marathon several times as a charity partner with Project Purple. Her passion for basketball comes from her father, who was her first coach and introduced her to the sport. Meg shares memories of his support and recalls the day she told him she got the job at NYU. She always feels his presence on the court, even after he sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer. \\ Listen to episode 302 of the Project Purple Podcast for the full discussion between Meg and Dino.
