🌬️ WINd project at the "Offshore Wind Energy: Opportunities for the Blue Economy" event ❕ ➡️ On 28 November, the event "Offshore Wind Energy: Opportunities of the Blue Economy" took place at the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo. Although the WINd project did not have its own panel, the event brought together numerous projects and experts who shared valuable insights. 🌐 Organised by the Repsol Foundation and documented by OBSERVADOR, the event began at 10am with Joaquim Reis, Director of the Repsol Foundation in Portugal, and ended around 5pm with the President of the Northwest Peninsular Atlantic Axis, Luís Nobre. The auditorium was packed with participants from prominent companies, organisations and initiatives. 💡 Topics discussed included new technologies for wind turbine construction, impacts on traditional fisheries and biodiversity, potential energy yields and job creation in Portugal, with a focus on retraining workers from the oil and gas industry for the wind energy sector. 🤝 The event highlighted the growing collaboration between academia and industry in the field of offshore wind energy. All panel discussions are available on Repsol's Openroom platform.(https://lnkd.in/diwrjJ7R).

🌬 The WINd project addresses the workforce needs of the rapidly growing wind energy sector by providing training and re/upskilling opportunities to workers transitioning from the electricity and offshore oil and gas sectors to the green energy industry. ➡ This questionnaire aims to validate the identified skills, tasks, and competencies required for workers' transitioning. Your participation will help validate and refine the skills and competencies needed for effective reskilling into the wind energy workforce ❕ 💡 The questionnaire is aimed at stakeholders in the wind energy sector, including employers, managers, technicians transitioning from oil and gas or energy industrial roles, training providers, policymakers, sectoral associations, and professional unions. 🖱 Follow the link below ▶ #ProjectWINd #WindEnergy #ReskillEnergyWorkers #Questionnaire #Survey

🌬 The amount of power that can be gathered from the wind depends on the turbine's size and blade length. The output is proportional to the rotor's size and the cube of wind speed. In theory, doubling the wind speed raises the wind power potential by a factor of eight. 📈 Wind turbine capacity has grown over time. In 1985, conventional turbines had a rated capacity of 0.05 MW and a 15-metre rotor diameter. Today's new wind power projects have turbine capacities ranging from 3 to 4 megawatts onshore and 8 to 12 megawatts offshore.
