🫣 The 2024 ILA strikes may have only lasted for a few days… But this is just a reprieve before the potential final act in January 2025 😱 . Will you get caught-out in January, or are you planning ahead and putting in place some diversification, or maybe avoiding east coast ports entirely until things are clearer? All outcomes are on the table at the time of writing this post. One thing is for certain: we as a country do not have anywhere else to turn to other than automation and efficiency gains in order to both handle growing freight volumes and improve how we handle disruptions leading to peaks. If the ILA and the USMX both choose to stick to their positions, it will come down to the government to make things happen 🫤 . And frankly, nobody wants that. The ILA needs to embrace automation, but as an enhancement to their existing role and work. As a way to make their lives easier. To lessen the burden and hardship of their day to day. Automation need not replace people. It can, and should, enable more to be achieved with the same headcount. That needs to be the goal here.

Are you calm about CARM? Or does the new Canada Border Services Agency | Agence des services frontaliers du Canada (CBSA) framework have you on edge? The good news is that this initiative isn't built to trick you! Customs processes are often updated to improve efficiency and modernize tech. Here's the quick version: ➡️Starting October 21, 2024, CARM will become the official system of record that importers will use to pay duties and taxes to the CBSA ➡️Importers are now required to do more in order to remain compliant with the CBSA ➡️This includes registering in the CARM Client Portal ➡️And delegating authority to a customs broker 🚨Importers must post their own financial security with CBSA: customs brokers no longer do this on your behalf! Importers can also appoint trade consultants as their representatives within the CARM Client Portal. You've got just under two weeks to get set-up and tick all the boxes to be CARM compliant as an importer. Great to see more modernization in customs compliance - exciting time for our Canadian customers. #logistics #supplychain #customs #canada
