Post-Patients as Partners mindset: deleting useless song lyrics from our brains to make room for all the great insights we gained. 💁♀️ Here's our delicious sampling from the PaP smorgasbord (but there was one thing that was missing - listed at the bottom): ✅ Improve patients’ trust in what we do. Astellas Pharma established a framework to do this with a focus on actionable integration of the patient perspective in every decision, and maintaining a conscious awareness of the patient during all activities. ✅ Amplify the patient voice in trial design. Lundbeck is engaging patients in trial design, integrating insights across the trial infrastructure, and emphasizing patient-focused drug development. ✅ Address the RIGHT barriers to patient participation. Patient Advocate and Community Ambassador O’Ronica Fields honed in on setting clearer expectations as one example, based on her discovery that many patients are surprised by the time commitment of clinical trial participation. ✅ Improve inclusivity creatively. Bayer doubled their diverse patient enrollment by engaging grassroots ambassadors to inform and co-create their inclusivity solutions. ✅ Let go of assumptions. On our own panel, we learned there are a lot of assumptions–incorrect ones, at that!--about what patients want out of clinical trials. We spoke with two patients who had the chance to share feedback on a trial website, and to hear how it positively shifted their experience was more refreshing than a pina colada on a hot day at the beach. Of course, not every “aha” moment at Patients as Partners comes from the stage. Whether it was a drive-by selfie, a quick chat over coffee, or a rambunctious dinner, we connected with some real MVPs! ***What was missing?! Not one example of anyone at least unblinding patients at the end of the study. If we can't do that, are we really treating patients as "partners"? #PatientsAsPartners #PatientExperience #PatientCentricity #ClinicalResearch Patients As Partners in Clinical Research Community News

“Of course you don’t put salad in the microwave!” We know, we know, Gordon Ramsay is running a kitchen and not a clinical trial...but hear us out. The standard framework for site training is full of gaps that lead to inefficient and inconsistent processes. If chefs followed a similar framework, let’s face it…they’d be putting salads in the microwave! Can we take inspiration from the culinary industry, whose approach to training is a well-oiled machine? What lessons can we apply to our own site training to ensure every visit is executed with excellence and efficiency? In our latest white paper, discover the unexpected parallels Joseph K. has uncovered between the kitchen and clinical trials — and how those insights can transform site training for study success. https://hubs.la/Q03cHvX80 #ClinicalTrials #SiteSuccess #ClinicalOperations #SiteTraining #NoMicrowavedSalads

Is inclusivity a pipe dream? We can probably all agree it sure feels like it some days! That’s why we need strategies to make inclusivity more attainable. 👀 One discussion around strategy that caught our attention today at Patients As Partners in Clinical Research Community News: “RWD for More Inclusive, Patient-Centric Clinical Trials.” Melissa Penn, JD, MPH’s go-to approach at Bayer is to bring in grassroots ambassadors to inform and co-create solutions for inclusivity. The astounding result? They DOUBLED their goal for diverse patient enrollment! ‼️ [Picks jaw up off the floor] So no, it’s not a pipe dream. We just need the right plan in place. What’s your plan? #PatientsAsPartners #Inclusivity #PatientsFirst #ClinicalTrials #PatientCentricity

Reason number 352 clinical research sometimes feels like Mission Impossible… Pharma reorganizations. 😱 No matter what’s happening internally, prioritizing patients is the one thing that can’t be sacrificed in clinical research. This expert panel at Patients as Partners tackled this important issue! Angela Bilkhu, Rebecca Fidler, Justin Buck, Jen Horonjeff, PhD, and Jasmine Masullo had an important conversation this morning about sustaining patient engagement initiatives amid pharma reorgs. Some of our favorite takeaways ⬇️ 💬 Rebecca says: 1️⃣ Designate a champion for most internal meetings 2️⃣ Develop a one stop shop knowledge base 3️⃣ Establish an extensive external network 💬 According to Angela: 1️⃣ Have one function that is responsible for patient advocacy/engagement, but empowers everyone 2️⃣ Ensure the Project Lead is accountable for the investment of bringing the patient voice embedded in governance ❓Anything you would add? Trust in pharma ranks lower than trust in the federal government?! 🤯 Anthony Yanni of Astellas Pharma dropped this bombshell in a panel session this morning at Patients As Partners in Clinical Research Community News. We may not like it, but we can’t ignore it. There’s an obvious need to bring the patient perspective into clear focus. How do we do that? Astellas shared their own framework: ➡️ Operationally: Actionable integration of the patient perspective in every decision ➡️ Culturally: Conscious awareness of the patient in all activities We’re exhilarated by this strong start to day 2 at Patients as Partners with this perspective! 💪 #PatienstAsPartners #Pharma #ClinicalResearch #PatientsFirst #PatientExperience

🎩 Hats off to Lundbeck–we’re big fans of this framework for getting the patient voice into trial design! Melissa Pauline Herman broke it down yesterday at Patients as Partners in Clinical Research. 🙋 Patient engagement in trial design 🔗 Integrating insights across trial infrastructure 💊 Patient-focused drug development This is fabulous work on the incorporation of the patient voice–a non-negotiable piece of successful trial design! ❓How are you working the patient invoice into your trials? Surprises are great—just not when it comes to clinical trial timelines! 🎁⏳❌ At Patients as Partners today, O’Ronica Fields shared some insights on trial participation barriers from a unique clinical trial ambassador perspective. One major barrier for patients is the expectation of time–often, patients are unaware of just how long they’ll spend participating in a trial. This is a huge problem! We talk a lot about patient expectations here at ProofPilot. It’s mission critical to set clear expectations at every step of the patient journey, from recruitment to each visit to the end of the trial. With the tools and innovative solutions in place to communicate with patients and improve engagement, no patient should have to be blindsided! Thanks O’Ronica for this important conversation. We’re all walking away better prepared to break down yet another clinical research barrier for patients. #PatientsAsPartners #PatientCentricity #ClinicalResearch #ClinicalTrials #PatientsFirst
