October marks Global Diversity Awareness Month, a celebration that originated in 2004 to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This month presents a valuable opportunity to recognize and celebrate the vital contributions that diverse voices from various cultures make to our organizations, communities and society as a whole. We must also reflect on the challenges and barriers that individuals from different backgrounds encounter in today’s workplace. It is crucial for both companies and individuals to actively participate in cultivating a culture of understanding that promotes tolerance and acceptance for everyone.

Each October, the United States celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), honoring the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities (past and present) and showcasing supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices that benefit employers and employees. National Disability Employment Awareness Month pays tribute to the accomplishments of the men and women with disabilities whose work helps keep the nation’s economy strong and by reaffirming their commitment to ensure equal opportunity for all citizens. This effort to educate the public about the issues related to disability and employment began in 1945, when Congress declared the first week of October each year as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. Congress eventually expanded the week to a month. The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the theme for 2024 National Disability Employment Awareness Month is "Access to Good Jobs for All."
