Project 2025 threatens America's public lands. From granting extraction industries nearly unlimited access to severely weakening the Endangered Species Act, this far-right agenda could devastate our natural resources and ecosystems. While a future Trump administration wouldn't be able to implement all of Project 2025's proposals, the far-right movement is persistent, with a long-range plan to change government in dangerous, undemocratic ways—just as they did with the Supreme Court. We will have to remain vigilant for years to come. Read more in our latest commentary from Rocky Mountain PEER Director Chandra Rosenthal. https://lnkd.in/eBwTdB5n

Protecting Public Employees Who Protect Our Environment
About us
PEER supports current and former government employees who are courageous and idealistic enough to seek a higher standard of environmental ethics and scientific integrity within their agency. We do this by defending whistleblowers, shinning the light on improper or illegal government actions, working to improve laws and regulations, and supporting the work of other organizations.

The recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity may be especially impactful if Donald Trump is re-elected. There’s a very real concern that he would feel unleashed to act without accountability. Short of impeachment, this ruling holds a rogue president harmless. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provides much needed investments in climate mitigation strategies. However, government agencies lack the staff needed to manage IRA funds, and many in Congress are using this shortfall to criticize climate change programs. As the election nears, PEER is advocating for increased staffing at the agencies critical to the IRA's success: the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, and the Department of the Interior. Today, the U.S. EPA Office of Inspector General released reports stating that three scientists, all represented by PEER, faced retaliation for opposing weaker risk assessments for new chemicals. “These whistleblowers have been beaten down, ostracized and punished, when all they were trying to do was to protect us,” said Kyla Bennett, PEER's director of science policy. #EPA #ScientificIntegrity
New: Three reports issued by the agency's inspector general detailed personal attacks suffered by the scientists -- including being called “stupid,” “piranhas” and “pot-stirrers” -- and called on the EPA to take “appropriate corrective action” in response. https://propub.li/3XytvvP
