Over time, the government's hiring process has become exceedingly complex and confusing, resulting in the loss of the entry-level talent it needs to lay the groundwork for the future. Just 7.5% of the full-time federal workforce is younger than 30 compared with 20% in the broader labor market. Vice President of Government Affairs Jenny Mattingley shares three constructive actions to jump-start positive change in the federal hiring process and build a strong talent pipeline: • Make hiring a top priority for agencies and their leaders • Prioritize recruiting early-career talent • Implement skills-first hiring Learn more about each of these actions from our reform agenda in Government Executive here: https://lnkd.in/e3QwftVZ

This year, we honored Christopher Mark with the #Sammies2024 Career Achievement Medal for his decades-long career in coal mine safety. From developing groundbreaking software that’s now used globally, to reforming safety standards that save lives, Christopher’s work has transformed the world of mining. His commitment to addressing roof falls, once the leading cause of fatalities in U.S. coal mines, is just one example of the incredible work he is spearheading.

Many federal government leaders are concerned that the public’s increasing distrust in our government is making it harder for them to carry out their missions and keep our communities healthy and safe. The Partnership’s Engaged Trust Framework shows how government leaders—from department secretaries to team leads—can spread Engaged Trust with the public as well as within their own teams and agencies. Key Points from the Engaged Trust Framework: • While several factors that affect trust are outside the control of federal leaders, the Engaged Trust framework focuses on a factor that federal leaders, employees, members of the public and others can apply to a wide range of situations: how leaders deliver on the commitments they make. • Trust in government spreads from the inside out, beginning with agency leaders and their teams. • Engaged Trust spreads through repeated sharing over time. If stories and other information that encourage Engaged Trust are not being shared, a vacuum may be created where rumors, wrong information and disengagement can spread. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ekn4mGkb. Interested in learning more? We are continuing to develop trust resources through our research and collaborations with federal agencies. If you would like to learn more, schedule a workshop or explore a collaboration, please contact the report leads Will Jenkins (wjenkins@ourpublicservice.org) or Hanadi Jordan (hjordan@ourpublicservice.org).

It's not common practice for agencies to ensure that programs or initiatives take a customer-centric approach. This situation must change. Vice President of Government Affairs Jenny Mattingley provides three important reforms Congress, agencies and the incoming administration should prioritize to revolutionize the way people interact with the government. By equipping agencies to center customer experience in everything they do, hire skilled talent and collect the right data, these reforms can help the government regain the public's trust. This past week, the Partnership hosted the second cohort of the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) Bootcamp, bringing together 11 federal leaders from eight agencies dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) in government. Throughout the bootcamp, participants engaged in impactful discussions, exchanged promising practices and gained insights from current CDOs on fostering an inclusive, dynamic and innovative workplace. The energy and dedication in the room were truly inspiring! A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers and participants for making this event a remarkable success. We’re excited to continue these vital conversations and support our leaders in driving meaningful, lasting change. #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #PublicService #Leadership #CDO

In his installment of The Washington Post’s “Who Is Government?” series, comedian and documentary filmmaker W. Kamau Bell spotlights his goddaughter, Olivia Rynberg-Going, a paralegal in the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust division, and her journey into civil service. Growing up, Olivia was driven by a passion for civil rights and equality. As she puts it, “I wanted to work for the civil rights division because it felt like a more obvious way to change the world and make America more equitable and safe for everyone. But in many ways, I’ve found the ability to think that way about antitrust law.” She recognizes that Americans need equity in grocery stores, tech and everyday essentials just as much as in courtrooms. Watch the video essay to learn about Olivia’s story and hear from key experts including our CEO Max Stier: https://lnkd.in/e9UD7VH4
