As part of our ongoing celebration for Careers in Construction Month, meet Gregory Portner, a Project Manager in our Philadelphia office:
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?
“I’ve always wanted a career where I could make a meaningful impact on my community, leverage my problem-solving skills, and stay active in a hands-on environment. Construction and project management allow me to do just that. The opportunity to collaborate with clients, help them shape a vision, and then turn that vision into reality has been incredibly rewarding. I feel fortunate to have found a path that challenges my leadership, requires people skills, and lets me be a part of building something lasting.”
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆?
“Watching a project evolve from an idea to a finished building or piece of infrastructure is incredibly rewarding. There's a tangible result to all the planning, coordination, and hard work. Construction projects are full of challenges, from tight schedules and budgets to unexpected technical difficulties. Successfully navigating these challenges and delivering a project is extremely fulfilling.”
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 (𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗲𝘁𝗰.) 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?
“Growing up in Switzerland, moving across Europe, and eventually settling in the United States exposed me to diverse cultures and ways of thinking. These experiences taught me how to communicate effectively and collaborate with people from all walks of life. In construction, which I see as much a 'people business' as it is about building, this ability to connect with others is invaluable. Whether I'm working with clients, contractors, or teams, building strong relationships and finding solutions through collaboration is at the core of my approach.”
Thank you, Gregory, for your insights! Stay tuned for more staff features coming this week and throughout the month. 🏗 🚧
