Do you ever feel like your schedule is always packed, but you don’t feel like you’re making any real progress towards the impact you desire to make with your philanthropy? In my experience as a philanthropy advisor for the past 25 years, I’ve noticed the more “busy” a foundation leader is, the longer it takes for them to implement and see real results from their strategic plan. To minimize this disconnect, look at your calendar and ruthlessly determine if your commitments align with your strategic priorities. From here, you’ll see progress in no time. Together, you and your foundation will experience more joy and momentum in your work. If you need advice on how to maximize your impact, head to the comments to ask questions or even book a complimentary call with me. #PhilanthropyAdvisor #StrategicPlanning #FocusOnWhatMatters

Let's debunk one of the most common myths about foundation work: Giving money away is a piece of cake. 🍰 Sure, if your plan is to cruise down the street handing out twenty-dollar bills to everyone, that would be enjoyable! However, when foundations distribute funds, there's a lot more involved than merely holding a stack of twenties. To be responsible stewards of your foundation's resources, you must ensure you employ the most effective strategies, meet genuine needs, assess your impact, and communicate success. #InvestInYourself #EffectivePhilanthropy #PhilanthropyAdvisor

Donating to a local cause as a business creates a meaningful connection among your employees and deepens your connection to your community. ✨ Here are a few points to keep in mind when you do begin to give to charity: 1. Connect your cause to your company. 2. Ask employees for causes to support so they will feel more connected to the effort. 3. Support causes you care about in your backyard because employees and local customers will appreciate you giving back to the community they live in. 4. Build morale and corporate culture by offering volunteer opportunities, not just writing a check. Charitable giving is about coming together, so don’t forget to ask your employees and community which causes are most important to them. By asking and listening to their opinion, you’re building a greater network of support. #CharitableGiving #SocialChange #PhilanthropicEfforts

“I can do that?” is a phrase I love to hear when I’m coaching a client one-on-one. My name is Kris Putnam-Walkerly and I work exclusively with CEOs, trustees, and ultra-high-net-worth donors. My job is to help you excel at achieving your philanthropic goals. I was working with one client, the CEO of a foundation, and she was telling me how she was worried her staff was feeling burnt out. They had just written and begun implementing a succession plan, and that took a lot of effort. Plus, it was toward the end of the year, and she was worried they wouldn’t have enough energy for a big push they were planning at the beginning of January. I was looking at the calendar with her, and I said, “Why don’t you give your staff these four days off. Combined with Christmas and New Year’s break, that will give them ten continuous days off.” She looked at me, and she said, “I can do that?” When I told her yes, she laughed and said, “Okay, I’ll do it.” By bringing her concerns to someone with an outside perspective, she was able to find a solution and give her staff the rest they needed so they could come back and work at their best. It’s moments like these where I see the immediate relief or “aha” moment for my client when I appreciate them letting me share my perspective and help them find the best path forward for themselves and their teams. If you got some insight or inspiration from this story, then be sure to put a ✨ in the comments to let me know! #PhilanthropyConsultant #SocialChange #CommunityFoundation
