Your Source for Scientific Instrumentation

About us

Quantum Design is a privately held corporation that develops and markets automated temperature and magnetic field testing platforms for materials characterization. These systems offer a variety of measurement capabilities and are in widespread use in the fields of physics, chemistry, biotechnology, materials science and nanotechnology. A broad product line allows Quantum Design to address the scientific and operational requirements of researchers around the world. Benefiting from its depth in instrument design and manufacturing, Quantum Design (QD) has become the leading commercial source for automated materials characterization systems incorporating superconducting technology. These instruments may be found in the world’s leading research institutions, and have become the reference standard for a variety of magnetic and physical property measurements. QD instruments are cited in, and provide the data for, more scientific publications than any other instrument in the fields of magnetics and materials characterization. This means that each year, literally hundreds of scientific publications, advancing the science of materials use data generated from QD instruments. In diverse areas such as materials characterization, high-sensitivity electrical measurements, and defense-related magnetic anomaly detection, Quantum Design’s team of scientists and engineers provides a full spectrum of service and application support for customers both domestically and internationally.

Convenience can be the difference between energy wasted and time well spent. Building an experiment on the bench is easy and convenient using the configurable sample pod technology of OptiCool®. There are a wide range of innovative pod configurations to accommodate samples large and small. Nanopositioners can be integrated onto the pod to provide high-resolution spatial control within the variable magnetic and temperature environment. Sample pods easily plug into the prewired temperature control column, instantly providing electrical access to the pod via the external connections on the #cryostat. A variety of wiring and feedthrough options are available, including positioner wiring, RF coax, and optical fiber feedthroughs. Electrostatic Force Microscopy (EFM) is a phase imaging mode used to study imaging variations in the electric field of the sample substrate and therefore study the surface potential and charge distribution. Here, we examined the macroscopic electronic properties of polycrystalline BaTiO3 ceramics, which are governed by potential barriers forming between single grains. With FusionScope®, you get TRUE correlative microscopy. The high resolution of the SEM can be used to easily identify grain boundaries and perform the EFM analysis directly at the region of interest. Plus, FusionScope's software allows users to interactively overlay AFM imaging data onto SEM images while operating the microscope in real time. Did you know that you can control many aspects your QD instruments using a version of Python called MultiPyVu? We're excited to announce the release of Version 3.1.2! MultiPyVu provides the ability to control the temperature, magnetic field, and chamber status of Quantum Design products using python either locally or via a remote computer. Additionally, it includes commands to control the resistivity option for our DynaCool systems, read the auxiliary thermometer in the OptiCool, and the ability to open and save .dat files. MultiPyVu opens up Quantum Design equipment to better integrate with other measurement equipment. Learn more at pypi.org/project/MultiPyVu.
