Today is the last day of our fiscal year at Quantum Franchise Group. Next week we head to annual conference to spend several days with our favorite people and (hopefully) collect some awards. Our team has wrapped up their goal planning, with very attainable goals, for fiscal year 2025. If we reach these goals we will be THE top producing brokerage with the Franchise Brokers Association in 2025, helping 91 entrepreneurs be awarded their franchises. People often ask me what we're building here and how big we want to become. We're breaking the mold and doing some wild stuff. I thought I'd use Keller Williams Realty, Inc. to explain my wacky vision. AI tells me that, as of 2023, there were over 1,100 Keller Williams offices in the United States. In each office there is a team of agents working hard to help aspiring home owners find the perfect home. At Quantum Franchise Group there is a team of trained and certified Franchise Agents working hard to help aspiring entrepreneurs find, qualify for, and be awarded the perfect franchise. Imagine, if you will, Quantum Franchise Group offices around the United States. Each office being led by a Senior Agent surrounded by a team of local agents, all working together to help open new locally owned businesses in their city and across the country. Imagine each office also providing resources and services to hundreds of existing franchise owners in their city, further driving home the point that, as a franchise owner, you are in business for yourself, but never by yourself. Imagine this. It's easy if you try. So, I dunno, 1,100 offices sounds like a good number to shoot for. What do you think? People are likely tempted to ask, "What makes you think you can pull off something like this?" My answer: "What makes you think we can't?" We're building our first local team right here in my current city, Rochester, Michigan. Ahhh fall! The chill in the air. The trees with their slow-motion, technicolor explosion. Pumpkins & mums. Bonfires, hayrides, and sweaters. The anticipation of the holidays. Or, you can take the severance package and your freedom and finally bring that dream of owning your own business to life, the dream where you're in control and you get to create a culture where everyone who joins you wakes up, comes alive, thrives, does amazing work, and never wants to leave. We just helped a young guy in his 20's be awarded a youth soccer franchise with a track record of generating an average of $1.8 million in top line revenue and annual net profit of $538,000 (29.5%) systemwide, after ramp up, according to Item 19 of the 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document. Every award is special to us, but this one is super exciting, because we're setting someone free and changing their life at such a young age. We're really wanting to focus more on helping young folks in their 20's and 30's in the year ahead. Our company president, William Huffhine, spent over 30 years hating his corporate work life, and by extension, being very unhappy with his life in general for most of his adult years. One of the fastest growing hot dog and BBQ franchise concepts is replacing McDonald’s and Subway in Walmart locations across the country. Quantum Franchise Group received the exciting news this month from one of our favorite food and beverage concepts. Last spring Walmart corporate decision makers in Bentonville, AR made the decision to begin phasing out McDonald’s and Subway locations from their stores, and approached our brand to begin opening express locations in their place. Our team had a C-suite executive disqualified from becoming a franchise owner with a brand right at the finish line. Seems surprising, right? You would think that a candidate with that level of business experience and acumen would be an obvious choice for franchise ownership. Here's what went wrong. The candidate was invited to "Discovery Day." Sometimes also known as "Confirmation Day," this is the last step in the process before a franchise is awarded. The candidate usually visits the headquarters for a final "interview" with senior executives. During his meetings with the senior executives, he repeatedly interrupted them to demonstrate what he felt was superior subject matter expertise. His goal was to impress the franchise executives by being the smartest person in the room, suggesting that, without working a single day as a franchise owner with their brand, he knew how to run the business better than the people who built the business from the ground up and scaled it to multiple markets. There's no doubt the candidate was highly qualified, but he inadvertently demonstrated to the franchise that he was not a good fit for what every franchise is looking for in a candidate, someone who believes in the brand, believes in the proven process, and can execute that process. There is a time and place for everything: As a candidate: Demonstrate to the franchisor that you are a person with humility, emotional intelligence, that you are coachable, and that you will follow the system that every other successful franchisee in their network followed to launch and scale a successful territory. As a franchisee: After you've been awarded the franchise, launched, scaled, and reached profitability, you're now in a great position to contribute to the greater good of the company. With humility, and newly acquired "street cred," this is your time to shine by bringing your best insights, ideas, and suggestions to the company to make a great brand even better. You may even be invited onto a advisory board, but you have to earn this honor!
