Proteins, through their diversity, are vital determinants of phenotype and function. Humans possess potentially millions of protein variants (proteoforms), derived through mechanisms including post-translational modifications. This has made protein sequencing more complicated than gene sequencing—something that Next-Generation Protein Sequencing™ (NGPS) is beginning to address.
